Job Description Summary
Overview
We are seeking a Lead Product Data Engineer to drive the evolution of our digital product configuration and data systems for engineered-to-order (ETO) High Voltage Circuit Breaker products. This role blends mechanical product knowledge with data engineering expertise to build and maintain robust, scalable systems for managing product structure, configuration rules, and manufacturing readiness.
As the technical lead for our product configurator and product data infrastructure, you will own the flow of information from engineering definition to manufacturing execution, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and usability across platforms-including our SAP ERP system. This is a hands-on role with strategic influence, perfect for someone ready to lead initiatives without direct people management responsibilities (yet).

Job Description

Key Responsibilities
  • Own and maintain the product configurator (AC1) platform, translating engineering logic and product structure into accurate, user-friendly configuration rules.
  • Develop and manage data pipelines to support the flow of configuration data into SAP & potentially other engineering design tools.
  • Set up and manage production Bills of Materials (BOMs) in SAP, ensuring accurate, version-controlled, and production-ready product structures.
  • Partner with design engineering teams to interpret and digitize mechanical rules, constraints, and variants into structured configuration logic.
  • Build tools, scripts, and dashboards for data validation, automation, and reporting on configuration usage and product complexity.
  • Support integration of the configurator with other enterprise tools to ensure seamless data flow and traceability across the product lifecycle.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for product data architecture and governance, ensuring scalability and consistency.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to validate BOMs and ensure manufacturability of configured outputs.

Qualifications

Required:
  • 5 years of experience in engineering, data engineering, or configuration/data systems roles.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical products, BOMs, and product structure in an ETO (engineered to order) environment.
  • Experience working with SAP to manage BOMs, material masters, and production data.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python for data automation and pipeline development.
  • Experience working with configuration systems (e.g., Configure One, Tacton, Salesforce CPQ, or similar).
  • Ability to lead technical initiatives and collaborate across engineering, operations, and IT.

Preferred:
  • Familiarity with PLM systems and CAD data integration.
  • Experience with data pipeline tools (e.g., dbt, Airflow) or cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).
  • Exposure to CPQ systems and variant management in commercial tools.
  • Experience with dashboards or BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).

You'll Thrive in This Role If You...
  • Combine mechanical engineering intuition with data-driven systems thinking.
  • Enjoy being the go-to expert for product structure, configuration, and data flow.
  • Take pride in building reliable, scalable solutions that bridge engineering and manufacturing.
  • Are excited about driving continuous improvement through automation, analytics, and clean data.
