Role: Senior Platform Engineer
Location: Washington, D.C. (Onsite - 4days/week, Only Locals)
Duration: 12 months contract
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Platform Engineer to join our team and drive the development of robust, scalable platform solutions. This is a key role that demands deep expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), cloud platforms, DevOps tooling, and developer experience platforms. You will play a crucial role in building and integrating tools and systems that enable streamlined, self-service infrastructure provisioning and deployment for internal development teams.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform-not just provisioning, but productizing infrastructure for internal use.

  • Develop automation pipelines, APIs, and webhooks to integrate systems and enable one-click, self-service workflows.

  • Architect and implement internal developer platforms and portals (e.g., Backstage, Port.io) to enhance developer productivity.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to understand platform needs and translate them into robust, reusable solutions.

  • Leverage expertise in Azure Cloud (or AWS with the ability to translate to Azure) to design scalable, secure cloud-native solutions.

  • Champion DevOps best practices, continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD), and platform observability.

Required Skills:

  • Expertise in Terraform, including creating modular, reusable infrastructure components.

  • Proven experience building internal platform tools or products, not just executing infrastructure tasks.

  • Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts (preferably Azure; AWS acceptable with fast adaptability).

  • Hands-on experience with internal developer portals such as Backstage or Port.io.

  • Deep familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, and API integrations.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think end-to-end, not just task-by-task.

  • Self-starter with a track record of owning initiatives and delivering impactful results.

Nice to Have:

  • Prior experience being the first or one of the early platform hires at a company or business unit.

  • Strong communication and leadership skills-able to evangelize DevOps and platform engineering principles across teams.
