The API Platform Developer in PK is responsible for building and maintaining API proxies in the Kong API Management platform. The successful candidate has a deep and broad experience in the Kong platform, including the use of plugins (custom and standard), and has demonstrated experience in implementing API routes and services to connect to backend services. Ideally, the candidate currently holds, or recently held, a Kong Certified Gateway Associate certification.

Responsibilities

  • Work within the Kong API Management platform
  • Create routes and services and configure/maintain them as needed
  • Add plugins to routes and services
  • Design and build custom plugins as needed
  • Analyze differences between API contracts and implement transformations as needed in properly scoped plugins
  • Implement fault tolerance using capabilities within the Kong platform
  • Implement API Security, Authentication, and Authorization using established patterns within an enterprise
  • Troubleshoot APIs and performing root cause identification using tracing and other technologies
  • Identify existing issues and proactively recommend solutions for upcoming issues
  • Provide expert technical advice and guidance to project team members, client stakeholders, and our staff
  • Contribute positively to our team and corporate culture

Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience building routes and services in the Kong API platform
  • Demonstrated experience in building custom plugins
  • Demonstrated experience in configuring authentication, authorization, and other security measures using properly scoped plugins
  • Working knowledge of CIAM technologies such as OpenID Connect
  • Kong Certified Gateway Associate certification is ideal but not required
