Job Summary

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an RF Systems Engineer in our RF Datalink Engineering Department. Under general supervision with limited review, this position is responsible for the technical and project leadership with initial focus on leading and coordinating the rapid growing business sector of GA Transportable Earth Station (GATES) for MQ-9 Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). Major areas include the overall GATES technical leadership, subcontractor technical management, and coordinating with various stake holders for GATES support and deployment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) and technical leadership role for GA's Transportable Earth Station (GATES) for satellite communications to support UAV operations. Manage and work with the GATES subcontractor for the procurement, management, acceptance, integration, test, and deployment of the GATES. Develop plans, procedures, reports, and other appropriate documentation of findings and implement for GATES. Support GATES deployment at various CONUS and OCONUS sites.
  • Apply technical knowledge to analyze, investigate, and resolve assigned engineering problems in the areas of Beyond Line Of Sight (BLOS) satellite datalinks and Line-Of-Sight (LOS) datalinks for Unmanned Aerial System (UAS). Work includes: RF components research, analysis, trade-off, RF link budget analysis, SATCOM Coverage analysis and interfacing with datalink engineering functional areas for BLOS and LOS communications.
  • Perform datalink integration/testing with aircraft and ground control stations over a RF environment.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Prefers education and/or experience in the following areas: RF Systems, Satellite Communications, Antennas, IP Networked RF systems. Prior experience with Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, RF signal Generators, RF power meters, attenuators, power amplifiers, RF switches, RF combiners, and multimeters are highly desired.
  • Must have strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance is required.
