Overview
The Data analyst plays a critical role in implementation and delivery of a modern data governance solution in the cloud. The candidate will collaborate with Enterprise Data Governance stakeholders to improve data quality for consumers, enable a data catalog to govern data assets in cloud, and enhance data management for analytical and operational use cases. Additionally, this role plays a key role to gather and analyze data governance and compliance requirements, assess existing cloud data assets and capabilities to mitigate challenges and accommodate engineering best practices.

The Data analyst plays a critical role in implementation and delivery of a modern data governance solution in the cloud. The candidate will collaborate with Enterprise Data Governance stakeholders to improve data quality for consumers, enable a data catalog to govern data assets in cloud, and enhance data management for analytical and operational use cases. Additionally, this role plays a key role to gather and analyze data governance and compliance requirements, assess existing cloud data assets and capabilities to mitigate challenges and accommodate engineering best practices.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data governance and compliance requirements and translate into technical design solutions.
- Analyze and improve data observability, data quality control and monitoring for enterprise data stores in cloud, including data lake, data warehouse, and data hub.
- Partner with business subject matter experts (SMEs) and stewards to collect metadata, build data lineage, and enable a unified view of data asset in the enterprise data ecosystem.
- Assess and mature data access management in enterprise data stores to protect sensitive and Navy Federal member data.
- Partner with data analysts, data modelers and functional SMEs to understand data structures and design target data stores.
- Ensure the security and integrity of data systems and product solutions including compliance with Navy Federal, industry engineering and Information Security principles and best practices.
- Gather and analyze data consumption data of enterprise users, identify potential opportunities of enhancing data governance and mitigating data risk, and present findings and recommendations to business and technical stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Advanced experience in partnering with business stakeholders to identify and analyze data governance and risk management challenges and requirements, deliver technical design solutions, and draft documentation.
- Extensive experience in delivering and improving solution in a Big Data environment in cloud for Data Lake (Azure or similar), Data Warehouse (Azure Synapse or similar), and Data Hubs (Azure Cosmos DB or similar).
- Extensive experience in building metadata, data lineage and workflows by leveraging data catalog tools such as Unity Catalog, Collibra, Alation, Atlan, Azure Purview or similar.
- Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language. (Python, Scala, Java, etc.).
- Experienced in improving data quality capabilities.
- Strong understanding of data governance principles and best practices.
- Hands-on experience with data modeling tools such as Erwin, and Hackolade.
- Possess advanced verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced skill set and proficiency with procedures and analysis techniques.
- Work under minimal supervision and utilize complete understanding of business needs and objectives to support pivotal projects for achievement of operational goals.
