This role focuses on administration and support of IBM z/OS environments, ensuring system stability, performance, and disaster recovery readiness. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with the potential to convert to full-time in 2026.

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $72.00/hr.

We are seeking a Senior Mainframe Systems Administrator to join a high-performing Mainframe and Operations team. This role focuses on administration and support of IBM z/OS environments, ensuring system stability, performance, and disaster recovery readiness. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with the potential to convert to full-time in 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and maintain IBM z/OS Mainframe systems (currently z/OS 3.1).
- Perform system updates, disk management, backups, and disaster recovery planning.
- Monitor system performance and workload distribution using WLM policies and RMF reports.
- Apply PTFs and APARs for system updates and conduct regular IPL cycles.
- Manage storage using DFSMS and related policies.
- Collaborate with vendors to resolve hardware/software issues.
- Participate in disaster recovery tests and capacity planning.
- Construct and edit JCL code as needed (not a programming-heavy role).
Required Skills & Experience:
- 8+ years of experience with IBM Mainframe systems administration.
- Expertise in z/OS, MVS, and DFSMS.
- Familiarity with RACF, SDSF, JES2/JES3, SMP/E, and Unix System Services.
- Ability to work efficiently in an interrupt-driven environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Additional Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of REXX, JCL, Assembler, COBOL.
- Experience with IBM Z architecture and related products (CICS, DB2, WebSphere MQ).
Work Environment:
- 100% Remote (must be based in the U.S.).
- Standard hours: Mon-Thu 7:30 AM-5:00 PM CST, Fri until 12:30 PM CST.
- On-call rotation every 3 weeks (average issue resolution: ~10 minutes).
