Job Description

To provide engineering services for the stewardship of the company's gas transmission and distribution facilities. These services shall include the following: design, support of construction, maintenance and operations, DOT and local code compliance guidance and policy, budgeting, project management, general technical support, studies, standard practices, operating and maintenance procedures and training.
1. Designs new or modifies design of existing gas facilities including distribution feeder mains mete sets, large main extensions, large bores, bridge, highway and river crossings and small uprating projects. Is responsible for the design and coordination of gas main and service replacements.
2. Prepares construction drawings and specifications when needed. Specifies equipment, materials and assemblies required. Supports the permitting process and the acquisition of rights-of-way. Provides field-engineering support during construction and monitors construction for compliance with plans.
3. Supports the effective and economical selection of materials, equipment and vendors through product and vendor evaluation, material and equipment failure analysis, field trial programs and material specification needs
4. Develops and provides training and technical support to personnel in the areas of construction, design, operation and maintenance procedures, DOT code compliance, and emergency response.
5. Ensures effective communications with state and federal agencies regarding company compliance with applicable rules and regulations in the safe construction, operation and maintenance of the gas and/or water systems. Assesses impacts of regulatory rule changes on customers and company practices and responds appropriately to regulatory agencies.
6. Works with the Planning Engineers to develop alternative plans and timetables for facility additions or improvements necessary for system capacity and reliability. Analyzes system load flow studies and analyzes projects both technically and economically and recommends preferred alternatives for system additions.
7. Designs all gas projects as related to Street and Highway relocations.

Qualifications

- Mechanical or Civil Engineer with at least 2 years experience, Professional License Preferred
- Good understanding of gas design, materials construction techniques
- Have good communication skills and be able to achieve agreement on difficult issues involving materials and installation
.This position is regulated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) under the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). Any applicant/employee who will perform on a pipeline, an operating, maintenance, or emergency response function regulated by Part 192, 193, or 195, will be subject to drug and alcohol testing under the Company's PHMSA drug and alcohol testing programs. Any employment, transfer, or promotion offer made for this position is contingent upon taking and passing a drug test prior to the commencement of the new role. If an applicant/employee fails the drug test, any offer of employment, transfer, or promotion will be revoked.
