  • This position is eligible for OITS's hybrid work program. The candidate must work in the office three days a week. The supervisor and business needs will determine the hybrid schedule. Remote work will be considered for the right candidate.

Compensation:

  • Annual Salary/Hourly Rate: $75,000 to $90,000 / annual

Position Summary:

The Configuration Management Database Administrator manages and maintains the CMDB, ensuring accurate, consistent, and complete data on all IT components (hardware, software, and network devices). This includes defining relationships, implementing data governance policies, and integrating with other IT service management tools to support efficient incident, problem, and change management. This role requires advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with the ServiceNow platform, particularly in the Discovery, Configuration Item (CI) Management, and Change Management modules. The Administrator will assess and enhance CMDB performance by monitoring key metrics such as data completeness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness, relevance, and availability. These insights will be used to evaluate CMDB health, identify gaps or weaknesses, and drive ongoing improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness for all IT components, including hardware, software, and network devices.
  • Apply data modeling principles to define and maintain the CMDB s data schema, including CI classes, attributes, and relationships that accurately represent the IT environment.
  • Configure, administer, and optimize CMDB-related modules within the ServiceNow platform, including Discovery, CI Management, and Change Management.
  • Develop and implement scripts and automation tools (e.g., JavaScript, Python, PowerShell) to streamline CMDB data entry, updates, and system integrations.
  • Utilize tools such as ServiceNow Discovery, Microsoft SCCM, and other automated solutions to populate and reconcile CMDB data.
  • Use SQL or similar query languages to extract, analyze, and report on CMDB data, identifying trends and providing actionable insights to improve IT operations.
  • Enforce data governance standards, ensuring adherence to policies that support incident, problem, and change management processes.
  • Investigate and resolve data integrity issues, integration errors, and configuration problems to maintain a reliable CMDB.
  • Monitor and evaluate CMDB health using KPIs such as completeness, accuracy, timeliness, and relevance, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and leadership to design and implement solutions that align with business needs and IT service goals.
  • Balance multiple priorities and work under pressure while delivering high-quality results in a dynamic environment.

Required Skills:

  • Skilled in data modeling to design and maintain CMDB structure, including CI classes, attributes, and relationships that reflect the IT environment.
  • Proficient in SQL or similar query languages for data extraction, reporting, and analysis.
  • Familiar with scripting languages such as JavaScript, Python, and PowerShell.
  • Experienced with automation tools to streamline CMDB processes through scripts and workflows for data entry, updates, and system synchronization.
  • Hands-on experience with ServiceNow Discovery, Microsoft SCCM, or similar automated discovery tools.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret CMDB data, identify trends, and generate insights to enhance IT operations.
  • Capable of troubleshooting CMDB data integrity, integration issues, and tool configurations to ensure reliability.
  • Highly organized, effective under pressure, and able to manage multiple priorities and competing demands.
  • Adept at data processing and problem-solving with strong analytical capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to collaborate effectively with agencies, vendors, and executives on product design.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years ServiceNow development
  • 1 3 years of working with ITIL foundations, IT service management, and/or Service level agreement measurements
  • 3-4 years experience coding, testing, debugging, and documenting application programs
  • Experience with some or all the following Technologies: relational database(s), SQL Server or Oracle SQL, Microsoft .NET, JavaScript and xml programming.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred ServiceNow Certified System Administrator OR Configuration Management II (CMII) and Certified Manager Certification (CM)
  • ITIL v4 Foundations required within one year of employment.

Necessary Special Requirements: Ability to obtain and retain an OITS Security and KCJIS clearances are requirement of employment and continued employment.
