Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated IMS Database Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the full lifecycle support of the IMS (Information Management System) database environment, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and troubleshooting. This role requires an individual capable of independently performing all DBA tasks with minimal oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain IMS databases (both IMS DB and IMS TM).
- Monitor database performance, implement performance tuning, and optimize resource utilization.
- Design and implement database backup and recovery strategies, including disaster recovery planning.
- Perform routine database maintenance tasks and ensure data integrity and availability.
- Provide support for application development teams regarding database structure, performance, and best practices.
- Manage database change control and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
- Perform IMS system and database upgrades and apply patches as needed.
- Proactively identify potential problems and implement solutions to mitigate risk.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, application, and security teams to ensure robust, secure, and compliant environments.
- Produce and maintain up-to-date documentation for systems, procedures, and processes.
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as necessary.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience as an IMS DBA in a z/OS mainframe environment.
- Strong experience with IMS DB/DC, DBCTL, and DBDGEN.
- Proficiency in JCL, TSO/ISPF, SMP/E, and utilities such as DFSMS, DFSMShsm.
- Experience with performance tuning tools such as IBM OMEGAMON, BMC, or similar.
- Familiarity with COBOL, Assembler, or PL/I preferred.
- Understanding of high availability, replication, and disaster recovery strategies for IMS.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Education:
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
