TITLE: Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job Description:
Essential Functions:
  • Provides technical expertise on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Applies engineering principles and techniques to develop engineering solutions using a variety of engineering tools.
  • Derive Verification and Validation plans for qualification of Class I medical devices.
  • Receives minimal supervision and guidance related to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters
  • Performs CAD modeling of electromechanical assemblies to support the release of new designs and creates improvements to existing designs.
  • Completes or supervises the completion of necessary designs, drawings, calculations, tolerance analysis, specifications, and documentation on associated medical equipment.
  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering tasks, creates a resource plan for completion of these tasks, and tracks progress as required.
  • May be required to consult on a technical specialty, type of facility, equipment, or program function.
  • Researches and recommends vendors for commercial items and materials needed for a project.
  • Leads and/or contributes during design reviews to provide and receive constructive feedback on design and development activities.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience. Advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 4 years of experience with CAD systems (Solidworks), sheet metal design and fabrication, material selection, plastic injection molded part design tooling and qualification, and rapid prototyping techniques.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to perform tolerance analysis; knowledge of GD&T Y14.5 preferred.
  • Ability to utilize analysis tools such as FEA, etc.
  • Knowledge of international standards applicable to medical devices, including FDA Design Controls and ISO 60601-1
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) technical information effectively.
  • Ability to apply sophisticated mathematical concepts to such tasks as statics, kinetics, strength of materials reliability testing, analysis of variance, correlation studies and sampling theory, statistical analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and determine root cause.
  • Expertise in interdisciplinary systems, including electromechanical and electronic systems
  • Experience in a highly-focused team environment on a large development project is preferred
  • Experience with Design For Six Sigma (DFSS)
