Job Description:

Role Summary

As an Electrical Engineer BESS & Technology you will be responsible for technical design, equipment evaluation, interconnection support, and project execution across construction support, and commissioning activities for utility-scale storage projects. The role begins with design review and grows into leading full project design efforts using AutoCAD and electrical design tools.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

Evaluation & Design

  • Assist with evaluation of storage technologies, including BESS containers, inverters, transformers, and balance-of-plant equipment; recommend suitable products.
  • Support interconnection applications with technical knowledge and documentation.
  • Design AC and DC electrical systems, including single-line diagrams (SLDs), circuit diagrams, grounding, and protection schemes.
  • Assist in the creation of detailed permit and construction drawing packages for the electrical scope of BESS projects.
  • Review and incorporate electrical studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, grounding, ampacity, reactive power, etc.).
  • Develop specifications for BESS system controls to ensure compliance with grid codes.
  • Coordinate and review site plans with internal and external engineers to ensure integration with civil/structural design (e.g., soil/geotech conditions, fire code, wetlands, weight restrictions).

Construction & Commissioning Support

  • Support site development, construction, and commissioning activities; perform on-site visits as required.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and commissioning procedures.
  • Oversee testing and QA processes to verify installation and performance compliance.
  • Provide field technical support for installation, integration, and troubleshooting of BESS systems.

Business Development & Proposals

  • Review Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and support proposal development.
  • Provide proposal inputs: technical descriptions, scope definitions, contractor quotes, and simulation results.
  • Review Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and EPC contracts for design compliance.
  • Support interconnection and permitting discussions with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).

Collaboration

  • Coordinate external engineering resources and manage task orders and budgets.
  • Work cross-functionally with development, project management, construction, and commissioning teams to ensure project success.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and decisions clearly to internal stakeholders and external partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor s or Masters in Electrical Engineering (Mechanical acceptable with strong electrical background).
  • Competent with design and modeling software: AutoCAD Civil 3D, SKM/ETAP, Matlab;
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 855, IEEE 1547, UL 9540, standards.
  • Quick learning ability and strong problem-solving and analytical skills highly preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience with energy storage systems, products, and equipment.
  • PE (Professional Engineer) license preferred.
  • Familiarity with protection relays (SEL, GE, ABB, Schneider) preferred.
  • Strong Experience with any of the areas listed in Responsibilities above
