Job description:
Under the direction of the CFO, this role will co-develop and enhance the firm s business intelligence reporting and data systems. This requires working alongside our accounting and IT team members and firm leadership to deliver actionable business insights.
The role involves benchmarking the firm s results against competitors for the benefit of firm-wide analysis, practice group initiatives and financial reporting. The analyst will also support functional area departments in reporting, including marketing and business development, human resources, and more.
The individual in this role will implement and manage practice management tools pertaining to business intelligence, budgeting, reporting, and data systems and functionalities. They will also work with users to determine project needs and scope, and plans for implementation, investigate issues with all areas of the firm s business systems, and communicate with firm management in regard to reporting and analysis.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Implement new applications and provide enhancements to current applications. Work with Firm personnel to determine requirements, plan testing and implementation, and communicate with management and end-users regarding project status. Help drive adoption of new and existing applications.
- Apply expert knowledge of accounting applications and reporting tools.
- Thoroughly investigate and troubleshoot variances and other issues within the firm s business systems and with other sources.
- Using reporting/querying tools and T-SQL, develop and maintain monthly and ad hoc financial analyses covering all areas of law firm accounting including profitability, time and billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections and general ledger.
- Partner with the CFO, Software Architect/Accounting PM, and firm leaders to define, implement, and evolve the firm s business intelligence roadmap.
- Effectively use the firm s financial systems to analyze and interpret financial reports.
- Provide technical support to functional area departments including Finance, Human Resources, and Legal Recruiting personnel in regard to use of applications.
- Assist and oversee the consistency and integrity of all data feeds in and out of existing HR/Recruiting/Financial systems to other various firm applications.
- Work directly with key departments to develop and maintain all future and existing evaluations/surveys in various tools.
- Contribute to backend data flows, develop reports and dashboards, ensure data consistency across systems, and train users to maximize the impact of BI tools.
- Develop and refine OLAP cubes, data models, and analytics layers in SSAS or equivalent systems to support financial and operational analysis.
- Work with the CFO and Chief Information Officer to align financial data systems with firm-wide IT architecture, integration, governance, and security standards.
- Create, maintain, and optimize advanced dashboards, and visualizations using SQL Server, SSRS, Aderant, and BI platforms such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Collaborate on backend data flows between Aderant, IntApp, HRIS, payroll, and other firm systems; contribute to ETL/ELT development and maintenance.

Knowledge and Abilities Required
- Knowledge of all areas of Aderant Expert
- Familiarity with Intapp Open and Time
- Advanced expertise in SQL Server (T-SQL, SSRS, SSIS) and SSAS/OLAP.
- Knowledge of HRIS and payroll systems/processes.
- Expert level knowledge of MS Access, Excel, especially with VBA experience.
- Familiarity with BI visualization platforms (Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent).
- Expert level knowledge of Visual Studio Tools including but not limited to Integration Services, Analysis Services.
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel in oral and written form.
- Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
- Ability to align and prioritize work with executive leadership ensuring BI and financial data systems serve both business and technology objectives.
- High attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and commitment to data quality and confidentiality.
- Partner with technical and non-technical staff to scope projects, troubleshoot system issues, and implement enhancements.
Experience and Education Required
- Minimum five years experience performing financial analyses, preferably in the Legal or Professional Services industries. Minimum five years database development and administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server, especially with large databases. Advanced experience with SSRS required. Experience with Aderant Expert required.
- Bachelor s degree in accounting, Computer Science, or related fields is preferred.
- Relational databases and T-SQL programming in a MS SQL Server 2008+ environment, including stored procedures and SSIS packages, SSRS reporting. Database and server management experience preferred.
- Experience working with API for 3rd party Cloud Applications.
- Development and/or administration of business intelligence/analytics tools such as IBM Cognos and SSAS and Power BI.
