Overview

We are seeking a full-time Intern - Design Certification Engineer in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for contributing to avionics certification under the direction of a mentor or team leader.

Essential Functions
  • Under guidance and mentorship of an experienced design certification engineer, produce/submit key FAA documents to ensure compliance with required avionics certification
  • Participate in MPS, TSO and product improvement testing and develop reports to document testing efforts
  • Assist with requirements development, trace matrix development and performing generic safety analysis
  • Coordinate product development reviews and accept/act on constructive criticism
  • Perform aircraft certification EMC testing and report generation
  • Provide support to the DCE team through review/updates to procedure documents
  • Design basic avionics electronics circuits including schematic design and PCB layout for design of digital or analog circuits with assistance/mentoring from other team members
  • Complete basic certification and DO-254 documentation and partner with experienced DCE for signoff
  • Develop tests of basic FPGA circuits in accordance with the DO-254 process with guidance from mentors or team leaders
  • Support software verification efforts

Basic Qualifications
  • Completed coursework towards a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Computer Engineering OR sufficient relevant experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
  • Superior organizational/analytical skills with keen attention to detail/quality
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Experience with CAD and relevant aviation mechanical design
  • Experience with or knowledge of RTCA DO-160, DO-254, DO-178, or any FAA or Aviation related regulatory standards
  • Aviation related experience
