Job Summary:
Abacus IT is seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Systems Engineer to oversee and enhance critical infrastructure components. This role plays a vital part in driving technical excellence, automation, and efficiency across both on-premises and cloud environments. As the Lead Systems Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage infrastructure projects, and provide Level 4 support to our Managed Service Provider (MSP) team while ensuring the performance, reliability, and scalability of enterprise systems.

This position requires a strategic balance of responsibilities an example of time allocation is below:

  • 10% of your time will involve managing and mentoring an engineering team to drive growth and development.
  • 60% of your time will focus on the design and implementation of innovative solutions that enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • 30% of your time will be dedicated to handling complex escalations, ensuring timely and effective resolution of high-priority issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Architect, develop, and redesign infrastructure, ensuring best practices in security, performance, and scalability.
  • Proactively identify inefficiencies and implement innovative solutions to optimize on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive flowcharts, process documents, and procedures for system architecture.
  • Develop and implement automation scripts and workflows to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Build, deploy, and manage applications and infrastructure to meet operational needs.
  • Rigorously test and validate new technologies prior to deployment for seamless integration.
  • Analyze and report on enterprise system performance and functions, supporting informed decision-making.
  • Maintain and update the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) to ensure accurate documentation.
  • Follow change management protocols to implement production and disaster recovery changes while minimizing disruptions.
  • Collaborate with other teams to address system developments, compliance, and maintenance.
  • Travel to client locations as needed to support infrastructure projects and ensure system performance across various environments.
  • Implement and oversee cybersecurity-related duties, ensuring compliance with the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. These responsibilities include:
    • Identifying vulnerabilities and risks within the infrastructure.
    • Protecting systems and data through proactive security measures.
    • Detecting, analyzing, and responding to security incidents efficiently.
    • Supporting recovery strategies to ensure business continuity.
    • Continuously monitoring and refining security protocols to maintain optimal protection.
  • Provide third-level incident resolution and support through the Incident Management process and tools.
  • Continuously enhance technical expertise through ongoing learning and development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree or equivalent experience, with at least 8+ years in a technical infrastructure role.
  • Proven success leading complex infrastructure projects with measurable outcomes, such as server migration to cloud environments or performance improvements.
  • In-depth knowledge of infrastructure architecture, storage systems, and application deployment processes.
  • Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to new technologies.
  • Self-motivated and goal-driven, capable of managing priorities and working effectively under pressure.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, with fluency in English.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including peers, managers, and external partners.
