Our client is seeking a Mainframe Storage Engineer with deep expertise in Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex (GDPS). This role will be instrumental in ensuring the high availability, resiliency, and disaster recovery readiness of critical mainframe systems. The ideal candidate is preferably a former IBM employee with hands-on experience architecting, implementing, and managing GDPS environments across large enterprises.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and maintain GDPS configurations for high availability and disaster recovery.
Lead efforts to ensure business continuity through automated failover and recovery solutions.
Manage and support mainframe storage subsystems, including disk and tape storage solutions.
Collaborate with infrastructure, operations, and application teams to optimize storage performance and availability.
Provide technical leadership for GDPS-related upgrades, patching, and maintenance.
Monitor storage infrastructure for performance, capacity, and reliability using industry best practices.
Develop and maintain documentation related to architecture, procedures, and disaster recovery plans.
Participate in audits and compliance reviews related to storage and availability.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Expert-level experience with GDPS (all flavors, including GDPS/PPRC, GDPS/GM, GDPS/XRC).
In-depth knowledge of IBM Z Systems, including z/OS, z/VM, and storage subsystems (e.g., IBM DS8000).
Strong background in mainframe storage management tools and technologies.
Proven experience with disaster recovery planning and testing.
Experience with Parallel Sysplex, including Coupling Facility planning and configuration.
Preferably a former IBM engineer or consultant with direct involvement in enterprise GDPS deployments.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
