Network and Systems Administrator
Location: North Baltimore, MD (onsite)
Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: IT Services Manager
Position Summary:
CBTS is looking to add an experienced IT Systems & Network Administrator to our IT Infrastructure Team in Middle River, Maryland. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the configuration, maintenance, and reliable operation of our network infrastructure, servers, and data center environments. This role requires a deep understanding of both Windows and Linux systems, hands-on experience with IT hardware, and a strong focus on system uptime, performance, and security.
- This IT Engineering role & associated technology team will operate onsite Monday to Friday inside an Enterprise Manufacturing Facility in Middle River, MD.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer, support, and maintain Windows Server and Linux operating systems (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.) in both physical and virtual environments.
- Manage and monitor network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Perform regular system and network performance tuning, software upgrades, and security patches.
- Oversee and support IT hardware including servers, storage systems, backup devices, and networking equipment.
- Manage data center operations including rack/stack of hardware, structured cabling, power and cooling considerations, and environmental monitoring.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, diagrams, and procedural documentation.
- Implement and manage system backups and disaster recovery solutions.
- Provide tier 2/3 support for escalated technical issues and participate in on-call rotation as required.
- Ensure compliance with internal security policies and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on IT projects, upgrades, and deployments.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in Windows and Linux system administration.
- Strong background in IT hardware support including servers, storage, and networking equipment.
- Proven experience in data center operations, including system deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency with virtualization technologies such as VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, or KVM.
- Working knowledge of scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python, etc.).
- Familiarity with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and file/print services.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, and firewalls.
- Experience with monitoring and management tools (e.g., Logic Monitor, SolarWinds).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Linux+, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), CCNA, or similar.
- Experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and tools.
Working Conditions:
- On-site or hybrid work environment depending on company policy.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work for maintenance and upgrades.
- Participation in on-call rotation for critical system support.
