Senior Full Stack Java Developer

Location: Boston, MA (4 days/week onsite)

Role Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Senior Full Stack Java Developer with strong experience across both middle-tier/server-side development (50%) and presentation-tier/front-end development (50%). This role involves end-to-end ownership of web applications, from UI and APIs through database and object/ORM layers, with a strong focus on performance, scalability, and clean design.

This is not an architecture-only role. We are looking for a developer who actively codes every day and is comfortable working deep in Java, SQL, and modern front-end technologies.

A key requirement is real-world, hands-on experience using GitHub Copilot in Agent mode to assist with Java development. Candidates must have practical experience leveraging Copilot as part of their daily development workflow, not just theoretical familiarity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain full stack web applications using Java and modern front-end frameworks

  • Build and enhance middle-tier services, APIs, and business logic

  • Develop responsive, user-friendly front-end components

  • Write efficient, well-optimized SQL and work closely with database layers

  • Use GitHub Copilot (Agent mode) to accelerate Java development, refactoring, and code generation

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, QA, and DevOps

  • Participate in code reviews, debugging, and performance tuning

  • Follow best practices for security, scalability, and maintainability

  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and version control using Git

Required Skills & Experience

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience as a Full Stack or Java Developer

  • Strong expertise in Java (Spring, Spring Boot, or similar frameworks)

  • Solid front-end development experience (JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and modern frameworks such as React, Angular, or similar)

  • Strong SQL skills with experience designing and optimizing queries

  • Experience working with ORM frameworks (Hibernate/JPA or similar)

  • Proven, hands-on experience using GitHub Copilot in Agent mode for Java development (must be actual work experience)

  • Strong experience with Git and modern development workflows

  • Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs

  • Ability to work onsite in Boston 4 days per week

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Experience in insurance or financial services domains

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or similar)

  • Exposure to CI/CD tools and DevOps practices

  • Experience with automated testing frameworks
