Job Title: Optical Resident Engineer

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Optical Resident Engineer to work on-site at a customer location. While Charlotte, NC is the preferred location, candidates located near Columbus, OH; Tampa, FL; Austin, TX; or Cerritos, CA will also be considered. Periodic travel to Dallas, TX will be required. All business travel must receive prior written managerial approval, which must accompany receipt submissions via Fieldglass.

Key Requirements
Candidates must meet the following requirements, be able to clearly discuss relevant experience during a technical interview, and ensure such experience is reflected in the resume:
- 10+ years of experience with a telecom equipment vendor or service provider, specifically configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting Long Haul (LH) and Metro Optical DWDM networks.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience using optical design tools for generating design packages, managing optical power budgets, and applying knowledge of various amplifier types.
- 7+ years of experience with optical network management systems, particularly NFM-T.
- Experience in IP networking.
- Practical experience with the implementation of GMPLS and CDC technologies in DWDM networks is preferred.
- Product knowledge preferred: 1830 PSS, 1350 OMS (WS-NOC), EPT, and CPB tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with clients.
Role Responsibilities
The Optical Resident Engineer will serve in a consultative capacity, working closely with customers and internal teams across network strategy, design, implementation, and support activities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing network architectures and service designs aligned with customer requirements and industry best practices.
- Producing network implementation and migration plans.
- Configuring optical equipment and services.
- Supporting and testing networks during all stages of deployment.
- Conducting audits and assessments to ensure network compliance with customer expectations.
- Formulating and implementing network management strategies.
- Preparing and reviewing technical statements of work.
- Creating and delivering customer training materials.
- Evaluating network performance, scalability, manageability, and security.
- Recommending strategies for network performance optimization.
- Collaborating with internal teams to drive product enhancements.
- Conducting network and customer readiness testing.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with both technical and management stakeholders.
- Supporting critical network events during scheduled maintenance windows, which may require work during off-hours.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field; equivalent work experience will also be considered.
Experience:
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in optical DWDM network engineering.
- 7+ years of experience in optical design and network management.
- Familiarity with 1830 PSS, 1350 OMS, EPT, and CPB tools.
- Experience with GMPLS and CDC technologies is a plus.
- Proven ability to communicate complex technical information to clients effectively.
