Job Details

Founded 33 years ago, Allied Consultants is an Austin-based firm and premier provider of technical and business staffing solutions for the State of Texas. We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to be a key resource on a technical services team for our client, Employee Retirement System (ERS).

**Location of job: This position is primarily working in the office with some hybrid potential. Only candidates currently residing in the greater Austin area will be considered**

Responsibilities

Serves as a senior-level Network Administrator in the Information Systems Division, performing advanced work including design, implementation, administration and security of network, unified communications and other systems, ensuring alignment with client's strategic goals, business needs and management priorities. Work involves highly complex operational tasks and projects. Works under the general supervision of the Network Services Manager with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional customer service while being able to adapt to changing priorities.

Essential Functions:

Enterprise Network Infrastructure:

Conduct design, implementation, administration and support of enterprise network infrastructure systems and technologies, including data center, backbone, edge, cloud, wireless LAN, and wiring closet systems. Ensure capacity, performance, usability, security, reliability, modularity and sustainability.

Network Security Technologies and Solutions:

Conduct design, implementation, administration and support of enterprise network security systems and technologies including web and email filtering, network access systems, Virtual Private Networks, and firewalls. Ensure capacity, performance, usability, security, reliability, modularity and sustainability.

Communications Systems:

Conduct design, implementation, administration and support of enterprise communications systems including telephony, videoconferencing, and mobile/cellular devices, systems and technologies. Ensure capacity, performance, usability, security, reliability, modularity and sustainability.

Innovation:

Research, assess, evaluate and implement new, upgraded and developing technologies including determining suitability for current and future agency enterprise computing needs. Provide recommendations including new features, licensing requirements, high-availability, identity integration and security/risk assessment as appropriate.

Backups and Disaster Recovery:

Participate in disaster recovery including planning, documentation, backup management and exercises to ensure preparedness to respond to disasters and other unplanned situations and events, which could affect network and system availability for business operations.

Documentation and Training:

Develop and document all aspects of the environment within the scope of this position including best practices and operating procedures. Actively collaborate with and train others to ensure proper troubleshooting and other methods, and to ensure customer needs are met. Perform analysis, validation and revision of existing documents for currency, accuracy, efficiency and effectiveness. Follow and adhere to ITSM standards and methodologies including Change Management.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
  • Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct.
  • Perform on-call or scheduled after hours work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of administration of an enterprise networking and telecommunications environment. The ability to identify and define user and organizational needs; to process information logically; to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Uses all knowledge, skills and abilities to apply critical thinking to all aspects of the job. Must be self-motivated.

Professional Expectations:

  • Attends all meetings, meets delivery deadlines and is available during client's office hours.
  • Logs in and remains on agency Jabber during work hours.
  • Attends remote meetings with camera on unless prior arranged for camera off.
  • Coordinates leave and vacation with client lead.
  • Must dress appropriately for a business/business casual environment.

Qualifications

Minimum (Required):

  • 4 years of graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in data processing, computer science, management information systems, business or related field; or attainment of a diploma from a two-year technical school with specialization in computer or networking technology. Each year of related experience over the required minimum may be substituted for one year (30 semester hours) of required college credit.
  • 6 years experience in an enterprise technology environment in a progressively more difficult role performing network engineering, administration and support.
  • 4 years experience supporting Cisco wired networking equipment.
  • 4 years experience supporting network security systems, such as firewalls, web/email filter systems, and network access control systems.
  • 2 years experience supporting wireless networking equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience cohesively and successfully collaborating with other administrators, support teams, vendors and customers.

Preferred (Optional):

  • Experience administering and supporting telecommunications systems and solutions, such as UC, fax, and voicemail systems.
  • Experience with IaaS/PaaS cloud networking, technologies and services.
  • CCNP, CCIE and equivalent.
