Job Details

One of SGA's fortune 500 clients is looking for a Packaging Analyst/Engineer for a long-term hybrid consulting/contract position (3 days onsite at Atlanta, GA office).

Responsibilities :
As a Packaging Analyst/Engineer, you will play a key part in evaluating and driving client growth and sustainability opportunities. You will work with teams to guide the creation of our clients' current and future portfolio as well as driving productivity and innovation across their various functions including engineering, procurement, and product management.

You will typically work in teams of 2 - 3 other analysts and experts. You may often be collocated at a client site with other consultants responsible for the diagnosis, analysis, and implementation of business initiatives tailored to help our clients improve margins and reduce costs. Working closely with client stakeholders is key to establish buy-in and grow client capabilities. The ownership of individual work and ability to create impact as an individual is necessary to be successful.
  • Quintessential analyses include:
    • Reverse engineering of products
    • Determination of critical product or materials specifications and feature/attribute comparisons
    • Materials and product cost modeling for design and procurement outcomes
  • You will gain exposure across several industries and clients including:
    • Consumer packaged goods
    • Automotive
    • Retail
    • Consumer electronics
    • Light/Heavy industrial
    • Medical/Pharmaceutical
  • In addition, you will work in cooperation with our worldwide network of consultants to shape firmwide thinking in this area, continuously developing your own knowledge, as well as that of the Firm.
Required Skills:
You will be working with the firm's Design Labs as part of the Operations practice. Our Operations practice assists our clients in solving complex operational challenges. Blending strategic thinking with hands-on practicality, our teams work to develop and implement operational strategies that solve our clients' most critical problems.

The firm's Design Labs work closely with our clients and teams on an integrative approach to product development and procurement that considers what customers want, what competitors offer, and what it costs to manufacture and distribute the end-product. The team uses several key tools and software integrated with personal experience to deliver impact across several product development and procurement levers including product matrix optimization, complexity reduction, design for manufacturing/assembly, and commercial excellence.
  • 2+ years of packaging design and manufacturing experience preferred; Top companies preferred (E.g., Berry, Westrock, Sonoco, IP, PCA, Amcor, Interplat, Innovia, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience with laminated film, rigids, corrugated packaging design and manufacturing (extrusion, thermoforming, etc.). Experience with paper products considered a plus.
  • Proficient communicator, capable of working in multinational environments, self-motivated
  • Willingness/ability to travel, if needed
  • Ability to impact individually or as a collaborative member of a team, capable of working well with others but also autonomously with little direction
  • Experience in starting projects, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively in the face of ambiguity
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented individual
  • Excellent presentation skills with a focus on communicating complex ideas clearly
  • Creative and strategic thinker with the ability to analyze and synthesize data
  • A bachelor's degree in packaging engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science or analogous technical degree required; Top packaging programs preferred (E.g., Michigan State, Rutgers, Rochester, Clemson, Cal Poly, Wisconsin Madison & Stout, etc)
  • Strong record of academic performance
