Azure Local is a hybrid cloud platform that brings Azure services directly into customer datacenters-addressing critical needs around security, compliance, and operations. This transformation is taking place not only in the cloud but also across real-world environments like factory floors, hospitals, retail spaces, and autonomous systems.

The Azure Local Virtual Machines (VMs) team is central to this evolution. We enable customers to deploy and manage compute workloads anywhere using the Azure portal or Command Line Interface (CLI). Our mission is to help enterprises adopt Azure and drive innovation by delivering secure, scalable, and resilient edge platforms that enable workload and infrastructure operational efficiency, resiliency, and performance on-premise.

We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help shape the future of Azure Local. In this role, you'll design and build robust, distributed systems that support mission-critical workloads. Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership, elevate the technical standards, and uphold a data and results-driven culture.
  • Cultivate a team environment characterized by high collaboration and trust.
  • Lead the long-term architecture and detailed design of highly scalable distributed systems, emphasizing simplicity and maintainability.
  • Work collaboratively across Azure to develop platforms that streamline the management and monitoring of Edge devices at scale.
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with various project team disciplines to deliver high-quality solutions from concept to production code
  • Write exemplary code for large-scale distributed systems, prioritizing quality, simplicity, and maintainability.
  • Mentor and develop engineers at all levels through knowledge sharing and continuous learning.
  • Serve as a role model for an open, honest, and inclusive approach to problem-solving.

Qualifications:

Required/Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years of experience with clustering technology.
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with containers, Kubernetes, PaaS/IaaS
  • Experience in API design and familiarity with RestAPI
  • Experience in Golang
  • Experience with distributed systems
  • Experience in networking
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or similar cloud computing platforms
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
