Job Details

Job Title: Database Consultant (Azure SQL & Power BI)

Duration: 3 Months

Location: Remote

Key responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain an Azure SQL Database to support energy data systems.
  • Develop ETL pipelines in Azure Data Factory with Python-based transformations.
  • Configure and manage Azure Blob Storage for large datasets.
  • Migrate and validate existing data, ensuring integrity and accuracy.
  • Integrate database with Power BI for reporting and dashboards.
  • Implement security controls (RBAC, encryption, compliance with Vermont standards).
  • Provide documentation, training, and knowledge transfer to staff.
  • Support post-deployment monitoring, optimization, and issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with client stakeholders to refine requirements and performance criteria.
  • Deliver project status reports and work closely with project managers.

Required Skills :

  • Proven experience with Azure SQL Database architecture, performance tuning, indexing, backup/recovery, and high availability.
  • Hands-on expertise with ETL processing using Python in Azure Data Factory.
  • Practical knowledge of Azure Blob Storage (configuration, security, lifecycle management).
  • Experience designing and optimizing relational database schemas.
  • Ability to integrate Azure SQL with Power BI (direct queries, exports, pipelines).
  • Knowledge of data security, encryption, and compliance standards.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with stakeholders.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with utility/energy sector data systems (e.g., NEPOOL GIS, ISO-NE, VELCO's VX platform).
  • Experience automating manual data collection and reporting processes.
  • Knowledge of data lifecycle management and cost optimization in Azure.
