Job Details

Job Summary: The Mainframe Developer will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing legacy applications using COBOL and CICS, while supporting various aspects of the software development lifecycle. The role requires strong hands-on experience with IBM mainframe technologies, SQL, JCL, and job scheduling. The developer will work closely with business and technical teams to capture requirements, troubleshoot issues, and deliver reliable solutions. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in MicroFocus COBOL, ASP.NET, and mainframe migration projects. Key Responsibilities: Explore and gain a thorough understanding of the business Troubleshoot problems and provide support on existing products and services Work as part of a software development team in the implementation of projects Perform daily tasks of analysis, programming and testing as needed Assist with capturing business requirements, design, system architecture and development Maintain legacy applications (minor new development) in Micro Focus Cobol, Cobol and CICS that interact with the Department's Information Systems Must have most recent experience within the last year coding programs in COBOL Experience with SQL utilizing DB2 accessing by programs, writing queries in QMF and creating tables Experience with JCL and job scheduling Experience in software development utilizing Agile with SCRUM is desired but not required Perform front-end, middle-tier and back-end development Skilled in troubleshooting and weighing relative costs and benefits of potential actions Extremely detail-oriented and able to follow Department standards, methodologies, principles and processes Strong verbal and written communication skills Regular and reliable attendance is required Required Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Technical Degree in Computer Science Minimum 5+ years of development experience Experience with: COBOL and CICS (must be able to develop in both) Job Control Language (JCL) and job scheduling IBM mainframe (z/OS) TSO All aspects of the software development lifecycle and workflow Visual Studio for source control SQL DB2 QMF XPEDITER Preferred Qualifications: Experience developing in MicroFocus COBOL using App Master Builder and Native COBOL Experience with application development in highway inventory systems Experience with SQL Server 2012 and higher Experience with designing and building secure ASP.NET applications (C# and COBOL) Experience with Web/Windows Services Experience with SSRS reports Experience with Agile development methodology (2+ years) Experience with Mainframe Migration (re-hosting or re-platform) Education: Bachelors Degree
