Job Details

Resource 1 has an open permanent/ direct hire position for a Manager of Data Analytics & Engineering with our client in Naperville, IL. Will be expected to work onsite in Naperville on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, so candidates must be local to the Chicagoland area. The ideal candidate would be someone who recently transitioned to a Manager role from a Lead Data Engineer position, retaining their hands-on skills with AWS, Python and SQL, while building upon their people management experience.

Selected individual will be responsible for supporting the data engineering team on architecture solutions, people management/ oversight and some hands-on engineering work as needed. Will drive the development of digital products and platforms in the Data Engineering and Analytics arena. Will serve as the customer proxy responsible for working with Product teams and other stakeholders. Will work independently and partner closely with leadership to optimize and redefine the product vision and feature opportunities. Will be responsible for maintaining and innovating the design of the data warehouse and data/ information architecture. This position provides strategic enterprise data technical vision (3-5 years out) while directing immediate tactical data architecture initiatives. Additionally, the position will ensure the overall quality of technology data implementations across multiple domains, including data management, data integration, data quality, data reporting and data analytics.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Own solution architecture and ensure best practices and internal processes are followed.
  • Create standards and templates to streamline data pipelines and engineering processes.
  • Lead engineering teams in delivery of products, working with product and stakeholders.
  • Provide data flow diagrams and document source-to-target mapping.
  • Manage the data warehouse performance by optimizing batch processing through parallelization, performance tuning, aggregations,
  • Develop analytical insights including data integrity, analysis, test design, validation, etc.
  • Proactively promote data quality/ security through recommended approaches and practices.
  • Keep current with data trends and technological innovations.
  • Execute on POCs with new technologies and drive innovation and new ideas.
  • Manage AWS cost optimization and control, including resource utilization analysis, budgeting and implementing strategies to reduce cloud expenditure.

Required Experience/ Qualifications:

  • 10+ years using databases, including Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server or Redshift.
  • 3+ years of people management experience.
  • Strong AWS data engineering experience, with expertise in Python, PySpark, Glue, Athena, Lambdas and Step Functions.
  • Data modeling (conceptual, logical and physical model design) and experience with operational data stores, enterprise data warehouses and data marts.
  • Experience with BI and data warehousing design including multi-dimensional modelling (star schemas, snowflakes, de-normalized models, handling slow-changing dimensions, etc.).
  • Knowledge of SQL, Python and microservice/ cloud architectures/ pipelines.
  • Passionate about technology, hungry to learn, driven to succeed and excellent communication skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Some knowledge of RPA technologies (e.g., Power Automate, UI Path, Automation Anywhere, etc.).
  • Experience with automation using but not limited to Java, C#, Python or PySpark.
  • Any AI-related experience could be useful for upcoming projects.
  • Experience in supply chain/ operations/ transportation/ distribution industries.
