Job Description:

A GIS (Geographic Information System) Technician is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and managing geographic data for use in GIS applications. They work closely with GIS analysts and other professionals to ensure that spatial data is accurate, up-to-date, and meets the needs of the organization. Responsibilities may include:

Collecting and compiling geographic data from a variety of sources, such as maps, surveys, and satellite images.
Digitizing and entering geographic data into GIS databases.
Creating and updating GIS maps and layers using GIS software.
Performing quality control checks on GIS data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Analyzing geographic data to identify patterns, trends, and relationships.
Assisting in the development and implementation of GIS projects and initiatives.
Providing technical support and training to GIS users.
Maintaining GIS databases and archives.
Keeping abreast of advancements in GIS technology and best practices.
Collaborating with other departments to integrate GIS data and functionality into business processes.
A GIS Technician should have a bachelor's degree in geography, GIS, or a related field, although some positions may require only a certificate or associate's degree. Strong technical skills, including proficiency in GIS software and databases, are important for this role, as well as attention to detail and the ability to work independently. Good communication and teamwork skills are also important, as GIS Technicians often collaborate with other professionals to achieve project goals.

Position Requirements:

Bachelor s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
5+ years of experience with ESRI technology, including ArcGIS Desktop 10.X, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Enterprise Portal.
Familiarity with data workflows and geodatabase structure (e.g., SDE).
Strong troubleshooting skills with system integrations and publishing workflows.
Experience in utility industry
Experience in creating and managing geodatabases and feature classes.
Familiarity with ArcGIS Enterprise Portal and web mapping applications.
Basic knowledge of Python scripting for geospatial data processing and automation.
