Job Summary

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Integration Engineer in our MQ-1C Ground Control Station (GCS) group located in Poway, CA. This position will support hardware and software integration development efforts for the MQ-1C Gray Eagle Modernized Ground Control Station. This position requires strong initiative, leadership, communication, and technical skills to successfully carry out the duties of a Network Integration Engineer.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under general supervision, this position will perform integration activities that involve portable and modular ground control hardware with developing software to determine system network viability with the MQ-1C Gray Eagle aircraft. Documents findings, communicates results to engineering staff and makes technical presentations as required. Provides direction to design or technical staff where improvements are necessary.
  • Integration activities involve assembling the portable/modular ground control system with radio frequency datalink hardware (line-of-sight communications and satellite communications) and installing software build candidates in Hardware-in-the-Loop Lab and Software Integration Lab environments. Perform regression testing to ensure software builds maintain overall system functionality.
  • Work alongside internal Army Systems Engineering group to trace integration testing results to system design requirements for validation and verification.
  • Obtain operating knowledge and understanding of all ground control software technical areas to include but not limited to client-server architecture, VMWare ESXi hypervisor, containers, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 or greater operating system, and Windows 10 or greater operating system.
  • Using effective problem-solving skills, assess and understand emergent technical issues from local lab locations then work with various engineering groups to determine root cause and develop corrective actions to resolve those issues.
  • Develop software installation procedures, test procedures, and configuration procedures.
  • Work alongside with the System Development & Test (SDT) functional teams to ensure software changes meets system design requirements.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications

  • This position typically requires a bachelor's degree or master's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelor's degree, two or more years of experience with a master's degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of computer networking to troubleshoot and resolve communication issues between nodes on the same or different local area networks. Able to configure networking hardware such as multi-layer switches and routers. Strong understanding of TCP/IP protocol suite and routing protocols that include but not limited to RIP, OSPF, IGRP, EIGRP. Practical experience creating VLANs, virtual switches, and virtual routers. Working knowledge of software defined networking (SDN) is a plus.
  • Possessing Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, A+, and/or Security+ certification(s) will be prioritized during consideration.
  • Must have working knowledge and experience with system/software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Must have strong leadership and interpersonal skills to successfully manage, facilitate, and communicate with various functional groups to conduct effective meetings, delegate appropriate taskings, and report status to upper management.
  • Must have an ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and/or travel if required to complete the assigned task.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance is required.
