Mainframe Developer

100% Remote

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and document data system logic by interpreting COBOL programs, JCL, ADSO/IDMS programs, Bachman diagrams, and CICS definitions.

  • Extract and translate business and functional rules embedded within mainframe programs and third-party utilities.

  • Work closely with business teams to map how legacy systems support current federal and state requirements.

  • Maintain legacy systems while supporting modernization and system migration initiatives.

  • Deliver clear and comprehensive documentation to serve as a foundation for future system rewrites.

  • Participate in on-call rotations for nightly and weekend batch job support.

  • Provide accurate, timely status updates and adhere to quality standards.

  • Collaborate effectively in team environments and independently when needed.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of hands-on IDMS development experience

  • Strong knowledge of COBOL, JCL, ADSO, CICS, DMLO, SYNCSORT, IDCAMS, and related mainframe tools/utilities

  • Proven experience in tracing and documenting legacy system logic and data flows

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce clear, high-quality documentation

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in learning complex systems

  • Experience supporting mission-critical batch processes

  • Previous experience in Health & Human Services (HHS) is a plus
