Detailed Job Description:
We are seeking a Backstage Platform Engineer with strong skills in developer portal management, plugin development, and DB2 on AS400 systems. The role requires a unique combination of modern platform engineering experience (e.g., Backstage.io, Node.js, React) and legacy enterprise system expertise in DB2/400 (iSeries) and Mainframe database administration.
Key Responsibilities:
Backstage Developer Portal Management
- Design, deploy, and maintain the Backstage.io portal for internal engineering productivity.
- Manage catalog registration, service ownership metadata, and documentation templates.
- Administer integrations with CI/CD tools, monitoring, security scans, and cloud platforms.
Plugin Development & Customization
- Build and maintain custom Backstage plugins using:
- TypeScript
- Node.js
- React.js
- Create interfaces to integrate with tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, Kubernetes, Prometheus, and internal APIs.
Software Catalog Management
Configure the Backstage Software Catalog to represent all infrastructure components including:
- Microservices
- Data pipelines
- Internal APIs
- Shared libraries
Legacy Systems Support DB2/AS400
- Perform DB2 for i (AS400) database administration: backups, performance tuning, access control.
- Support and monitor mainframe-based applications.
- Collaborate with legacy system teams to integrate with modern developer tooling environments.
Must-Have Skills:
6 8 years of total experience in platform/infra engineering and/or database admin
Hands-on experience with:
- Backstage.io platform
- Plugin development using React, TypeScript, Node.js
Strong expertise in:
- DB2/400 (AS400, iSeries) administration
- Mainframe DB2 environment
Working knowledge of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions), Kubernetes, cloud environments (AWS/Google Cloud Platform/Azure)
Familiarity with system integration, observability, and DevOps principles
