Release Train Engineer (RTE)

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Release Train Engineer (RTE) to lead and coordinate Agile Release Trains (ARTs) in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment. The RTE will serve as a servant leader, facilitator, and coach, ensuring smooth execution of program-level activities and enabling the continuous delivery of high-value solutions. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to drive alignment across teams and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Program Execution & Facilitation
- Lead and facilitate Agile Release Train (ART) events such as Program Increment (PI) Planning, Inspect and Adapt (I&A), System Demos, and ART Syncs.
- Remove impediments, mitigate risks, and resolve dependencies across multiple Agile teams.
- Ensure alignment between product management, systems architects, and development teams.
- Oversee the execution of ART commitments and drive continuous improvement.
Agile Coaching & Leadership
- Act as a servant leader to Agile teams, fostering collaboration and self-organization.
- Guide teams in Agile best practices, Lean thinking, and SAFe principles.
- Coach Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Delivery Team members on Agile methodologies.
- Drive a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Stakeholder Communication & Reporting
- Serve as a liaison between business leaders, portfolio management, and development teams.
- Provide visibility into ART progress, risks, and dependencies.
- Track key metrics (e.g., flow metrics: velocity, cycle time, load, efficiency, predictability) and ensure value delivery.
- Facilitate cross-team collaboration and alignment on objectives.
Process Improvement & Transformation
- Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for optimization in Agile delivery.
- Support the adoption and evolution of SAFe frameworks within the organization.
- Drive lean budgeting, value stream optimization, and Agile maturity growth.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in Agile environments, with at least 2 years in an RTE role.
- Deep understanding of SAFe principles and Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, Lean).
- Proven ability to manage large-scale programs and 10+ cross-functional teams.
- Strong facilitation, coaching, and servant leadership skills.
- Experience in managing risks, dependencies, and organizational change.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and conflict resolution skills.
Preferred:
- SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification
- ICP-ATF Agile Team Facilitation certification
- Background in software development, IT, program/product management.
- Hands-on experience with Agile Work Management tools (ie. Azure DevOps)
The compensation range for this position is $60 to $80/hr W2
(dependent on factors including but not limited to client requirements, experience, statutory considerations, and location).
