Job Details

Title: Database Administrator 2 (N-IT)
Location: Vancouver, WA (hybrid)
Duration: 12-month Contract (with possible extensions up to 5 years)
Pay Range: $66.45 - $69.67 per hour

The role of the Database Administrator is to administer, test, and implement management approved computer databases, applying knowledge of database management systems. Coordinates changes to computer databases. May plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard computer databases. The Database Administrator (DBA) may also perform enterprise level database administration using the Oracle tool suite to install databases, implement scripting, tuning, backups, monitoring, failover and data protection, recovery, security and integrity.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Test programs or databases, correct errors and make necessary modifications.
  • Modify existing databases & database management systems or direct programmers and analysts to make changes.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure.
  • Write and code logical and physical database descriptions and specify identifiers of database to management system or direct others in coding descriptions.
  • Train users and answer questions.
  • Specify users and user access levels for each segment of database.
  • Approve, schedule, plan, and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems such as the installation of new databases.
  • Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project.
  • Develop standards and guidelines to guide the use & acquisition of software and protect vulnerable information.
  • Conduct performance tuning for servers, databases, and SQL
  • Provide recommendations for process improvements and technical solutions that can be integrated into existing environments.
  • Perform login management, install/patch, troubleshoot connectivity issues, monitor performance and tune when necessary, backup and restore databases in a complex three-tier architecture (client web interface, application engine, database engine).
  • Write and debug PowerShell, VB and/or PERL scripts to automate DBA processes such as monitoring/alarming on volume growth, performance bottlenecks, batch scheduling, and connectivity failures.
  • Utilize Windows-based tools and knowledge of Windows internals to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve performance and connectivity issues with Oracle on Windows.
  • Recommend SAN-based storage configuration, such as disk layout, to improve performance.
  • Provide developer and end-user support for databases including maintaining existing SQL and PL/SQL code and troubleshooting database interoperability problems
  • Perform routine database management from command line without the use of GUI Tools.
  • Install and maintain appropriate database fail-over solutions.

Position Requirements:
Education & Corresponding Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or a directly-related technical field is preferred.
  • Level 2:
    • 5 years of experience is required with an Applicable Bachelor's Degree in applicable fields.
    • 7 years of experience is required with an Applicable Associate's Degree in applicable fields.
    • 9 years of experience is required without a degree.
  • Experience must include direct work experience in Computer/Information technology performing Database Administration.

  • SQL Server and Database Administration
    • Certified Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or later and/or MySQL 5.x or equivalent DBA experience desired
    • Microsoft SQL - sqlcmd, bcp, etc.
    • MySQL - MySQL, MySQLAdmin, MySQLDump is considered a strong plus,
    • OLTP and OLAP data modeling
    • Assist in designing and implementing changes to a complex database environment as requested.
    • Database consolidation strategies
    • SQL Server remote management
  • Windows
    • Windows Server administration or Software installation
    • Active Directory
    • Windows 2016 or later certification
    • Uses remote management tools such as, NetOp and Microsoft Remote Desktop.
    • Utilize Microsoft Office tools to document processes and procedures.
  • Experience with Graphical User Interface (GUI) database management tools, to include:
    • Microsoft SQL - SQL Server Management Studio and SQL Profiler
    • SQL Server Failover Clustering
  • MySQL Workbench (including Database Design & Modeling, SQL Development, Database Administration)
