Job Details

Requirements:

  • 8 10 years of experience with IBM i servers and Db2 for i platform administration
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a DB2 for i DBA
  • Experience with IBM ACS tools (Run SQL, Schemas, Visual Explain)
  • Experience with IBM performance tools (iDoctor, Performance Navigator)
  • Familiarity with IBM i change management software (Implementer, MDCMS/Midrange Dynamics)
  • Proficient in writing complex SQL queries including joins, sub-selects, and common table expressions (WITH statements)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and support high-volume, high-velocity data environments
  • Understanding of DevOps principles, Agile/Scrum methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, and version control systems like Git
  • Basic IBM i navigation skills and experience creating/storing procedures and UDFs
  • Strong communication skills and professional demeanor
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Willingness to work overnight shifts during deployments and participate in an on-call rotation
  • Must be able to meet background check and drug screening requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Triage production issues and collaborate with multiple teams for root cause analysis
  • Review and optimize SQL queries through established workflows
  • Identify and address performance issues such as CPU bottlenecks and plan cache inefficiencies
  • Execute production data fixes and implement DDL changes in both non-prod and prod environments
  • Perform overnight database deployments, typically twice a week between 8 PM and 2 AM EDT during on-call weeks
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (one week every four weeks)
  • Act as a primary support contact for critical components of the DB2 platform
  • Collaborate with product owners and engineering teams to ensure platform stability and performance
  • Assist in capacity planning, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies
  • Enable platform observability via logging and monitoring tools
  • Document standard procedures, create runbooks, and oversee junior/offshore engineers
  • Stay updated on new DB2 features and related technologies to enhance platform capabilities
  • Conduct technical interviews for new hires and support project reporting as needed
