Job Title: Technical Material Engineering Manager

Reports to: Director, Product Development - Emerging Brands

Location: Goleta, CA

The Role

The Technical Material Engineering Manager - Emerging Brands (Teva / Ahnu) is an inquisitive, motivated, collaborative solutions-oriented technical footwear professional with experience preferably in athletic and/or outdoor product. The Technical Material Engineering Manager will be a key member of the product creation team sharing insights, suggestions, and information to identify and develop quality materials focused on delivering to product expectations. A strong candidate for this position will approach the work collaboratively and with a curiosity as to how we can make good products and processes better, bring a strong understanding of manufacturing and process to the team, is able to suggest materials/constructions from product briefs with designs, and demonstrates Deckers Leadership Behaviors. They will also be able to offer or share insight regarding shoe lasts, upper/material patterning, and molded part constructions. This person will offer management and mentoring experience in helping others grow.

Your Impact

The primary functions of this role, include but are not limited to:

Manage material development team and work that delivers on consumer benefit while meeting design intent and physical property standards associated with intended end use. Work to include seasonal focus with some work on longer innovation timeline materials. Align material development sourcing strategy to brand vision that maximizes construction use and manufacturing efficiencies while delivering on cost, quality, and delivery for development and production. Provide technical assistance to product creation teams (design, development) with technical packages, upper patterning, molded part constructions, and selected shoe lasts. Coach, mentor and develop material development team members.

We'd love to hear from people with
  • 6 years of professional experience in a technical capacity in materials or engineering, preferably in the footwear industry for a global company.
  • Experience managing a team
  • Advanced knowledge in footwear product creation, material manufacturing and/or footwear engineering.
  • Proficient understanding in shoe last creation, mold making, patterning and/or shoe manufacturing.

$140,000 - $148,000

The salary range posted reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this role in our Goleta, CA location. Individual pay will be determined by location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
