Senior Database Engineer to join our organization as we grow and transform our Enterprise Tech Solutions organization. Database Engineers serve as a critical foundation for enterprise data management, architecting and maintaining the sophisticated environments that power business intelligence and application functionality across hybrid technology landscapes. This specialized discipline encompasses the design and implementation of robust database platforms spanning traditional on-premises systems and modern cloud-native database services. The Database Engineer role orchestrates high-availability architectures, implements disaster recovery solutions, optimizes performance through strategic hardware allocation and configuration, and establishes the security frameworks that safeguard the organization s valuable data assets.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical transformation of our mainframe database architecture and position our legacy mainframe systems for the future. This role combines deep IMS/DB2 expertise with emerging cloud and AI technologies to drive modernization initiatives and create next-generation solutions for complex enterprise environments.
Legacy Systems Excellence:
- Maintain and optimize IMS/DB2 database environments with a focus on performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for mainframe database architecture and operations.
- Lead troubleshooting of complex database issues and performance optimization.
Cloud & Modernization Leadership:
- Design migration strategies for mainframe databases to cloud platforms. Evaluate and implement hybrid cloud-mainframe architectures. Collaborate on database modernization projects and technology assessments.
AI Integration & Innovation:
- Support the development of AI-assisted database monitoring and error interpretation systems. Contribute to knowledge transfer initiatives using AI-powered documentation tools. Participate in creating intelligent chatbot interfaces for database operations. Help build AI agents trained on institutional mainframe knowledge.
Required Skills
- 7-9 years of database/ data management experience preferred.
- Demonstrated track record of database expertise, including the ability to develop business partnerships and influence database priorities by identifying solutions that are aligned with current business objectives, closely follow industry trends relevant to database technologies and data management, understand how to apply them, and share knowledge.
- Five (5) plus years of IMS/DB2 database administration and performance tuning experience.
- Strong understanding of mainframe architecture and z/OS environments.
- Experience with database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
- Knowledge of SQL optimization and database design principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Cloud database experience (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, or similar).
- Exposure to AI/ML concepts or tools (Python, data analytics, automation frameworks).
- Experience with database migration tools and methodologies.
- Knowledge of modern data architecture patterns and best practices.
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.

Strategic & Business Acumen:
- Advanced delivery skills, including the ability to determine database architecture strategy and methodology to be used for efforts, use automated testing, monitoring, and informed feedback loops to ensure the quality and production readiness of database systems before deployment, and monitor the health of database systems and that of adjacent systems.
- Strong problem solver who utilizes data and proofs of concepts to find creative database solutions to difficult problems, reflects on solutions, measures their impact, and uses that information to ideate and optimize. Also adept at making database decisions that involve a significant number of factors with broad implications.
Required
- Bachelor s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or its equivalent in work experience plus 6 years of database engineering experience.
