About the Role

We are seeking a Full Stack Lead Developer with a strong backend focus to support a large-scale healthcare application modernization initiative. This role requires hands-on expertise in Node.js (TypeScript), along with experience in React for frontend development. You'll play a pivotal role in migrating legacy healthcare systems using microservices architecture with a focus on zero-downtime deployment, regulatory compliance, and user-centric design.

What You'll Do Application Modernization (Strangler Pattern Approach)
  • Lead the incremental migration of 100+ legacy healthcare applications to a modern architecture using Node.js (TypeScript) for backend and React for frontend.

  • Implement modular services to gradually replace legacy components with minimal disruption to users.

  • Collaborate with architects to define the modernization roadmap while ensuring HIPAA compliance.

Backend Development (60 70% Focus)
  • Design and build scalable, secure REST APIs and microservices using Node.js, TypeScript, and preferably NestJS.

  • Integrate with SQL databases and healthcare platforms such as EHR/EMR systems, pharmacy networks, and third-party APIs.

  • Apply ORM frameworks and follow secure coding practices for healthcare data.

  • Optimize backend for performance and security on Azure cloud (Blob Storage, containerized environments).

Frontend Development
  • Enhance and modernize UI using React, with a focus on accessibility and healthcare UX standards (e.g., WCAG).

  • Collaborate with designers to translate complex workflows into intuitive interfaces.

  • Implement frontend state management (Redux, Context API) and performance optimization for high-traffic applications.

Collaboration, DevOps & Compliance
  • Work closely with QA to ensure HIPAA, HITRUST, and other regulatory standards are met.

  • Partner with DevOps to automate CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and ensure production stability.

  • Provide documentation, training, and support to internal teams adopting modernized components.

Required Skills & Experience
  • 10+ years of full-stack development experience.

  • 5+ years of recent experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and React.

  • Proficiency in SQL database integration and use of ORM tools with Node.js.

  • Deep understanding of microservices architecture-ability to design, implement, and scale services.

  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and secure coding practices.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with NestJS or similar backend frameworks (Express, Sails.js, LoopBack).

  • Familiarity with Ruby on Rails or C# to support/refactor legacy code during migration.

  • Knowledge of Azure Healthcare tools (Azure API for FHIR, Health Data Services).

  • Exposure to healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, FHIR) or prior authorization workflows.

  • Background in healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated industries (HIPAA, GDPR).
