Job description:

Technical support includes implementing Database as a Service, Installation, Upgrade, FTE Migration, Optimization of database servers on Windows/Linux platform in Azure Cloud. Expert level knowledge of database replication, log shipping, backup and restore under the high availability environment.

 

The primary tools in association to the Systems Operations database team include but are not limited to:

IBM DB2

IBM DB2 Data Studio

IBM DB2 Replication Center and Client Tools Setup

Microsoft SQL Server

Informatica

Tableau

Power Designer

TOAD for DB2

Power / Shell Scripting

Azure Databases

Middleware Databases

 

Primary Tasks:

Provide subject matter expertise to participate in the planning, defining, developing, transitioning, and implementing existing databases and related tools to support the DB2 database in the Azure Cloud.

Provide expertise to identify and recommend approaches in moving databases and related data to an Azure Cloud environment.

Review the existing performance monitoring scripts on virtual machines and provide an implementation approach to maximize efficiencies for use with client infrastructure. Identify and recommend any critical additional performance monitoring tools/scripts necessary to support database migration, optimization and performance of databases architecture in the Azure Cloud.

Perform database administration activities for the DB2 databases in the Azure Cloud.

Perform database activities in preparation to move existing DB2 databases to the Azure Cloud.

Provide expertise in validating data on DB2 databases to the Azure Cloud.

Participate with business meetings to gain knowledge of the CSE application database schema and data model.

Participate and support to document all business and technical requirements, designs, strategies and database move implementation activities.

Collaborate with architects, specialists, and designers to identify impacts database functionality and identify consistent solutions to migrate to the Azure Cloud.

Collaborate with System Administration staff to coordinate the installation of the DB2 database in the Azure Cloud.

Collaborate with DevOps staff to coordinate the deployment of the DB2 database patches in the Azure Cloud.

 

Knowledge Transfer Tasks
Provide cloud expertise and knowledge transfer activity status with leadership and contractor staff.

Hands on training to database staff to understand and implement Azure Cloud strategies.

Hands on training to database staff to understand the required Azure Cloud technologies and techniques needed to migrate, maintain, and optimize databases.

Hands on training to database staff on Azure Cloud architecture and how it impacts daily activities.

Facilitate brown bag/townhall sessions to keep staff informed of status for database cloud migration and optimization activities.

Identify and communicate how migrating databases to the cloud impacts database staff s daily activities, current processes and tasks.

 

Qualifications:

A minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in systems development, analysis, programming or testing

Bachelor s Degree in an IT-related or Engineering field. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis

At least three (3) years of progressive experience in a database design or equivalent database administrator role in the last five (5) years with demonstrated experience in building complex SQL statements At least three (3) years in the last seven (7) years performance tuning databases in a relational database management system using database products such as DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle.
Demonstrated experience using at least one (1) relational database management system in a cloud infrastructure within the last five (5) years
Demonstrated a minimum of one (1) year experience as lead role for data analysis and database optimization within the last five (5) years

Demonstrated a minimum of one (1) year experience as Database Warehouse administrator supporting/administering Datawarehouse architecture/tool sets within the last five (7) years
