Contract DSP Engineer True-Wireless Audio

Location: Remote United States (nationwide)

Contract length: 3 4 months (extensions possible based on project scope).

Schedule: Flexible hours; collaborate across U.S. time zones.

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate commensurate with seniority and impact.

An industry pioneer in miniaturized loudspeaker technology is accelerating its true-wireless-stereo (TWS) roadmap and needs an experienced contract DSP engineer to push the limits of sound quality, battery life, and form-factor innovation. If you thrive on shipping real-time firmware that makes a measurable impact on the listener experience, this high-autonomy, short-term engagement is your chance to leave a lasting mark on cutting-edge audio products.

Key Outcomes

  • Design and optimize advanced sound processing technologies for seamless execution on cutting-edge earbuds, ensuring ultra-low latency, efficient memory usage, and minimal power consumption.
  • Port and integrate DSP firmware onto leading TWS SoCs (e.g., WuQi, Qualcomm, Airoha) while collaborating closely with Bluetooth and acoustics specialists.
  • Profile, debug, and optimize at the boundary of hardware and software, resolving issues from assembly-level ISR timing to end-to-end audio quality.
  • Document design decisions, test plans, and performance metrics so future engineers can extend the platform with confidence.
  • Contribute architectural ideas for the next generation of DSP features, from adaptive ANC to ultrasonic ranging.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 5+ years writing embedded C/C++ for low-power, real-time audio or similar signal-processing applications.
  • Demonstrated success shipping DSP algorithms in Bluetooth audio products (TWS earbuds, headphones, or speakers).
  • Deep understanding of digital-audio fundamentals: filter design, acoustic modeling, codec pipelines, fixed-point optimization.
  • Proficiency with JTAG/SWD debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers for board-level bring-up and troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability to deliver in a self-directed, deliverables-driven contract setting.

Nice-to-Have Extras

  • Hands-on experience with WuQi WQ/BM series or Qualcomm QCC51xx chipsets.
  • Scripting in Python or MATLAB for algorithm verification and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of LE Audio, LC3 codec, or dual-bud clock-sync techniques.
  • Experience with acoustic sensing technologies or advanced transducer systems.

Why You ll Love It

  • Significant impact on driving product success in a dynamic and expanding audio market.
  • High trust, minimal bureaucracy - focus on engineering, not status reports.
  • Work alongside world-class DSP, acoustics, and RF talent solving real problems fast.
  • Fully remote engagement with streamlined contracting and weekly billing.
