Job Title: Technician Automation & Manufacturing Support (1st Shift)
Location: Fargo, ND
Duration: 24+ Months (Contract/Temp with the possibility of extension)
Shift: 1st Shift (6:00 AM to 2:00 PM)
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing/Automation Technician to support daily production operations, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and assist in the installation, programming, and maintenance of assembly and automation equipment. This role works closely with manufacturing, engineering, and automation teams to ensure equipment reliability, product quality, and continuous improvement across the production floor.
Essential Job Functions
Provide technical support to production teams by troubleshooting and resolving issues related to assembly tools, equipment, processes, and products.
Take initiative to quickly and effectively address issues with minimal supervision.
Support installation, setup, wiring, programming, documentation, training, and maintenance of assembly and automation equipment (fixtures, torque tools, conveyor lines, PLCs, robots, etc.).
Create and update MWIs and JDAAT programs, including labeling and final packaging instructions.
Work with PLCs, networks, sensors, scanners, and I/O configurations to integrate automation systems.
Support manufacturing engineers and other departments, including prototype coordination.
Assist in the design, fabrication, and validation of production and prototype fixtures, jigs, and simple machines. Train operators where needed.
Act as the engineering representative on Continuous Improvement Teams to drive improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and productivity.
Participate in assembly line layout optimization, waste identification, process improvements, and equipment moves.
Conduct time studies, help develop labor standards, and assist with line balancing activities.
Support development of final assembly processes across multiple locations.
Create purchase requisitions for tools and supplies.
Utilize Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook to communicate and document work.
Research new assembly techniques, equipment, and systems.
Support efforts to maintain ISO 9001 certification.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Education
Associate degree in Mechatronics, Electronics, or related technical field
OR
Two-year technical diploma
OR
Equivalent military training or relevant experience
Required Experience
Minimum 3 years of experience in electronics, manufacturing, or engineering support (7+ years preferred).
Required Skills & Abilities
Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills and root-cause problem solving
Ability to read and interpret complex schematics and engineering documents
Experience with hand soldering and electronic component work
Familiarity with manufacturing systems (ERP, Agile, MES)
Ability to create and maintain technical documentation
Ability to assemble, disassemble, and evaluate products and prototypes
Intermediate mechanical aptitude
Ability to train or guide other technicians and operators
Basic understanding of PLC controls (Studio 5000, ladder logic)
Basic robotics experience (Fanuc required; UR is a plus)
Ability to research, summarize, and present technical data
Familiarity with PFMEA is a plus
