Job Details

Notes to applicants:
  • Dimensional sees great value from collaborating in our offices and appreciates the benefits of flexibility. Most roles fit our office-first hybrid approach: We are together on our campuses Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and have the choice to work in the office or remotely, depending on what is best for that work day, on Mondays and Fridays. This approach maximizes in-person collaboration and interaction while simultaneously providing flexibility and applies to most roles globally with a few exceptions that require more or less time in the office. Please discuss with your Recruiter to confirm the details for this specific role.
  • Resumes and portfolios (when applicable) are required as part of your application. When applying from a mobile device or tablet, you may not be able to attach a resume. If you cannot include an attachment at the time of your application, you will receive a follow up email asking you to attach your resume from a computer.
  • Here at Dimensional, we strive to be an inclusive workplace for all. Even if you do not match every qualification listed, if you are interested in who we are, what we do, and why we do it, we suggest and encourage you to apply.
  • The use of Artificial Intelligence during interviews and skill testing is prohibited, unless Dimensional Fund Advisors has authorized such use.
  • If you require reasonable accommodation in completing this application, interviewing, or otherwise participating in the employee selection process, such accommodation is available upon request.

The Technology Department at Dimensional leverages the rapidly evolving state of the art to engineer the platforms that power the innovative, research-driven financial and technical products to improve our client's financial lives. You may be a fit for this role if you:
  • Are open-minded, curious, and resourceful
  • Are passionate about and stay current with emerging technologies
  • Solve problems systematically and transparently
  • Share ideas, solicit/integrate feedback, design and solve collaboratively
  • Demonstrate automation and security mindsets

What you might work on:

As the Desktop Engineering Manager, you will lead the team responsible for the entire lifecycle of our end-user computing environment, encompassing both Windows and MacOS platforms. This role is pivotal in defining the strategy for our desktop environment and ensuring its stability, security, and alignment with business objectives. Other things that you may work on include:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Desktop Engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and outstanding customer service.
  • Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for the end-user computing environment, including hardware standards, operating systems, and core application platforms.
  • Oversee and guide the team in the creation, maintenance, and deployment of application packages for both Windows (MECM, MSI, PowerShell App Deployment Toolkit) and MacOS (Jamf Pro) environments.
  • Develop and enforce best practices for application packaging, software distribution, and patch management to ensure a secure, stable, and consistent user experience.
  • Drive the strategy for automation of repeatable administrative tasks using PowerShell and other scripting technologies to improve team efficiency and reduce manual error.
  • Collaborate with business leaders, product owners, and IT stakeholders to define requirements, manage expectations, and ensure engineering efforts align with company goals.
  • Direct the management and strategy of Group Policies (GPO) and modern device management policies (Intune) to configure and secure company workstations.
  • Ensure the team meets or exceeds deployment success rate targets and manage the operational handoff process to Service Desk and Desktop Support teams.
  • Manage vendor relationships, service escalations, and product evaluations to support the desktop environment.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for the Desktop Engineering team, providing expert guidance and direction on complex technical challenges.
  • Develop and present strategic project proposals, budget requests, and purchasing justifications to senior leadership.
  • Establish and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the desktop environment, including system performance, deployment success, and compliance.
  • Foster a strong, collaborative partnership with Platform, Server, Network, and Security teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal configuration of all systems.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in desktop engineering, with a deep understanding of application packaging, OS imaging, and software deployment in a large-scale enterprise environment.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory, team lead, or management role, with a proven track record of successfully leading technical teams.
  • Expert-level knowledge of endpoint management platforms, including Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM/SCCM) and Jamf Pro.
  • Strong strategic understanding and practical experience with PowerShell for automation and system administration.
  • Proven experience leading a large-scale operating system migration (e.g., Windows 10 to 11).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a customer-focused technical team and champion service excellence.
  • Proven experience building consensus and gaining support for strategic initiatives from both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information to leadership.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and an ability to drive projects to completion.
  • Expert knowledge of Windows (10/11) and MacOS operating systems, including the "Windows as a Service" model.
  • Deep understanding of core infrastructure services including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP in a Microsoft environment.
  • Working technical knowledge of current networking protocols and standards, including TCP/IP, VPN, and Wi-Fi.

Preferred Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience managing endpoints with Microsoft Intune and co-management.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms such as Citrix or VMware.
  • Certifications: ITIL Foundation, MCSA, or other relevant technical and management certifications.
