Job Description:

EMC and Compliance Engineer

Type: Direct Hire/Permanent Position (NOT contract)

Bonus: 8%

Based at our North Kingstown, RI facility and reporting to the Product Compliance Manager, the EMC & Compliance Engineer is responsible for supporting all efforts to obtain and maintain Global Certifications in Product Safety, EMC, Performance, and Regulatory Compliance for products. This role works closely with cross-functional engineering teams, third-party partners, and external testing agencies. The EMC & Compliance Engineer ensures that all products meet the highest standards of design quality, performance, and integrity, while maintaining full compliance with policies and all applicable regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Leads efforts to obtain Agency Certifications and conduct EMC testing for Electronic and Electro-mechanical products, including LED Lighting, Control, and Automation Systems to support of Global Market Access.
  • Support EMC, product safety, and radio approvals from initial pre-scans and construction reviews through final regulatory certification.
  • Interface with 3rd Party Certification Bodies (NRTL's, Notified Bodies, etc.), EMC testing labs, and governmental agencies to secure appropriate global approvals
  • Participates in technical design reviews to assess regulatory requirements, communicate compliance needs to project teams, contribute to design decisions, and estimate the effort required for regulatory activities
  • Collaborates with Product Development Teams to obtain necessary samples and design documentation
  • Provides guidance throughout all phases of the agency certification process
  • Communicates project status and test results promptly to the team to ensure alignment and timely decision-making
  • Creates and maintains a compliance database for pre-scans, construction reviews, and final certifications
  • Reviews, updates, and ensures accuracy and correctness of all required Agency documentation
  • Develops and maintains knowledge and understanding of relevant regulatory standards
  • Participates on Codes and Standards Development Committees as appropriate
  • Follows all safety protocols and maintains excellent project organization
  • Interprets standards and rulings and challenges agency decisions when appropriate
  • Authors Process and Procedure documents to support certification programs as required
  • Assists Manufacturing and Quality Associates during external audits to ensure continuity of product compliance.
  • Assists in the design, development and procurement of test and measurement equipment and procedures. Assists with developing laboratory best practices & procedures.
  • Facilitates training and education of Product Design Engineers in Agency requirements
Qualifications
  • Experience testing & certifying electronic products to UL, CSA, & IEC standards
  • Experience with UL/IEC 60730, UL 1563, UL / IEC 60335 and Global Certifications a plus
  • Experience with NSF certifications is a plus
  • Strong background in EMC testing and mitigation. Previous EMC Testing experience is a big plus.
  • Competent with intermediate mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic principles
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent Hayward to customers, suppliers and third-party approval agencies on a professional level
  • Working knowledge of regulatory compliance schemes
  • Ability to interpret results and troubleshoot test setups
  • Experience with PCB layout and shielding design for EMC mitigation

Education and Experience:
  • BS in Engineering or related Sciences required. BS in EE preferred.
  • 3+ years of regulatory agency experience in a design / testing environment

Physical Requirements:
  • The position involves sitting, standing, and walking in both an Office and Laboratory environment.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 45 lbs. may be required.


Work Environment:

Involves both Office and Laboratory work. Indoor & Outdoor activities are routine requirements of the job.

Commonly works around water, mechanical assemblies, and electrical machinery.
