Job Description
We're seeking a Senior Database Engineer to manage enterprise Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle database systems. This hands-on role focuses on installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance tuning of high-availability database environments both on-premises and in Azure cloud.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Install, configure, and manage SQL Server instances (2012-2022) and Oracle databases on Windows/Linux platforms
• Deploy and manage databases on VMWare, Azure IaaS/PaaS, and on-premises infrastructure
• Manage SQL Server clustering, Always-On availability groups, replication, and high availability solutions
• Perform database migrations from on-premises to Azure, including Azure Managed Instances
• Monitor database performance, integrity, and security across enterprise environments
• Perform regular maintenance including index optimization, statistics updates, and consistency checks
• Plan and execute database upgrades, patches, and migrations with minimal downtime
• Troubleshoot database errors, bottlenecks, and performance issues using SQL Profiler and Extended Events
• Analyze query execution plans and optimize SQL queries for performance
• Implement and manage database security including TDE, STIG compliance, and user access controls
• Configure and troubleshoot database mirroring, log shipping, and transaction replication
• Manage Oracle RAC, Oracle Enterprise Manager, RMAN backups, and Oracle Data Guard
• Participate in disaster recovery testing and provide recommendations
• Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, changes, and procedures
• Generate performance metrics, growth trends, and usage statistics reports
• Provide on-call support on rotation basis and participate in monthly database patching

Required Experience/Skills
• Oracle and SQL Server certifications required
• Proficiency in SQL Server clustering, Always-On clustering, and on-premises to Azure migrations
• Experience with Azure Managed Instances, SQL STIG compliance, and Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)
• Strong knowledge of SQL Server (2012-2022) and Oracle database administration including installation, configuration, and optimization
• Expertise managing databases on VMWare, Azure (IaaS/PaaS), and on-premises platforms
• Experience with Oracle RAC, Oracle Enterprise Manager, RMAN backups, Oracle Data Guard
• Proficiency in Linux shell scripting and experience with AWS RDS and EC2-based databases
• Ability to troubleshoot performance issues and analyze SQL execution plans
• Experience with database security solutions and compliance requirements
• Knowledge of AWS cloud concepts for DBA operations
• Experience with disaster recovery testing and recommendations
• Strong documentation and communication skills
• U.S. citizenship required
• Must possess or obtain Public Trust clearance before start date
• Availability for on-call support rotation

Nice-to-Haves
• Experience supporting 24x7 operations environments
• SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Integration Services (SSIS) expertise
• Experience with database mail configuration and automated alerting
• Knowledge of OEM monitoring and custom shell script development
• Experience applying quarterly Oracle patches and Windows Server patches
• Background in configuration management database (CMDB) standardization
• Experience mentoring junior DBAs
• DevOps and automation workflow experience

Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field with relevant database administration experience. Oracle and SQL Server certifications required.
