Overview

This is a remote role that may only be hired in North Carolina.

This position is a dynamic leader, focused on strategic vision, talent development, initiative execution, and effective team management (5-10 direct reports).

In this people manager role, the manager applies deep SME and industry experience to a broad range of functions: sets objectives, thinks strategically about projects, and manages capacity by optimizing team efficiency. This requires implementing UX Design at the program level, championing our design pillars, providing solutions from a systems perspective (at the Division or Enterprise level), and managing relations with partners such as product and tech, as well as stakeholders.

This position will collaborate with other leaders in the enterprise digital design team to cultivate the design team's culture, elevate design awareness across the organization, and to ensure their direct reports have what they need to be successful in the work to come.

Responsibilities

Strategic Input & Leadership - Thinks holistically in developing strategic initiatives that ladder up to Enterprise Digital, Product Org, and/or Design Team objectives and goals.
  • Manage teams and participate in gathering user insights and feedback to design and create short-term recommendations and future state visions that align with broader product strategy and create impact for the business.
  • Direct solution design, prototype testing & iteration of solutions with client/stakeholder inputs, all the way through to solution development and launch.
  • Plan, direct, and orchestrate multiple UX initiatives at different stages of the product lifecycle.
  • Guide the creation of scalable solutions across the organization.

People Management
  • Provide career guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback to your team and fulfill all necessary duties of people managers at First Citizens
  • Assign work and set priorities in line with objectives, supervises a team, uses judgement to solve day-to-day challenges, and begins to realize the power of problem-framing, establishing new starting points that lead to new kinds of solutions

Design Guidance & Leadership
  • Provide thought leadership to the design community, to inspire and provoke knowledge and new ideas within First Citizens
  • Provide design leadership and innovation opportunities through engaging with colleagues from other teams to ensure that iterative design and Design Research and Content Strategy approach is understood, adopted, internalized, and effectively leveraged
  • Help direct the creation of a holistic UX strategy and vision, as a core part of the design and product team to build best-in-class products for our clients

Collaboration
  • Facilitate information gathering working sessions and collaborate seamlessly with Product Managers, Engineers, UX designers, researchers, and other cross functional stakeholders to understand business objectives, needs, and constraints while creating designs that provide creative, thoughtful solutions
  • Collaborate with cross functional leaders to drive and deliver against program/organizational OKRs by improving processes, focusing on impact, and scaling the work
  • Facilitate and participate in critiques internal to the design team and design community of practice

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in Interaction design OR High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Interaction design

Preferred Experience: Bachelor's Degree and 10+ years of experience or High School Diploma or GED and 15+ years of experience

Required Area of Experience: User Experience (UX)

Preferred Area of Experience: Financial Services Industry

Preferred Area of Study: UX Design, HCI (Human Computer Interaction

Skill(s):
  • Knowledge of end-to-end design processes, demonstrating a command of product strategy
  • Understanding of design patterns and visual design systems
  • Knowledge of user research, testing, and discovery
  • Knowledge of jobs-to-be-done theory, service blueprints
  • Knowledge of UX design within the business context of banking and financial services
  • Knowledge of low and high-fidelity design tools used for wireframing and rapid prototyping (e.g. Figma, Axure), Jira for partnering with developers
  • Understanding of current web technology capabilities and cross-device considerations
