Job Title: Senior Red Hat Linux Administrator Consultant
Duration: 5 Years
Location: Annapolis, MD (Hybrid 3 days onsite, 2 days remote)


Summary:

A government organization based in Maryland is seeking a highly skilled Senior Red Hat Linux Administrator Consultant to manage and optimize Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in Linux systems administration, automation, and enterprise-level infrastructure support. The consultant will play a critical role in supporting application deployments, maintaining system health, and ensuring high availability, security, and performance of IT infrastructure supporting essential services.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers across development, testing, and production environments.

  • Perform system upgrades, patch management, and security hardening.

  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement preventative measures.

  • Automate system administration tasks using Ansible, Bash, or Python.

  • Manage Red Hat Satellite, Identity Management (IdM), and other related tools.

  • Provide support for enterprise applications including Oracle WebLogic, PeopleSoft, and ElasticSearch.

  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity protocols and address vulnerabilities.

  • Manage backup, restoration, and disaster recovery procedures.

  • Create and maintain comprehensive system documentation and standard operating procedures.

  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to provide technical guidance and support.

  • Participate in on-call rotations for incident response and resolution.

  • Configure and manage NFS shares and scheduled Cron jobs.

  • Be available to respond onsite within 24 hours when required.


Must-Have Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).

  • Strong automation skills with Ansible, Bash, or Python.

  • Experience with Red Hat Satellite and Identity Management (IdM).

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills across OS, applications, and databases.

  • Demonstrated experience supporting 24/7 mission-critical systems.

  • Expertise in load balancing, partitioning, backups, and disaster recovery planning.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; team-oriented.


Preferred Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience administering Red Hat Linux systems.

  • 10+ years of experience managing AIX (IBM pSeries) systems.

  • 15+ years of total experience in the IT industry.

  • Experience with:

    • Oracle WebLogic Servers

    • Oracle and Progress Databases

    • Apache Web Servers

    • vSphere-hosted RHEL environments

    • Rubrik backup systems

    • PeopleSoft, Mobius, ElasticSearch, Oracle OBI, CVS

  • Red Hat performance tuning expertise.

  • Background in application development and electronic imaging systems.


Qualifications / Certifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor s or postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a directly related IT discipline
    (Degrees unrelated to IT, such as MBA or Agricultural Economics, are not considered applicable)

  • Valid Red Hat Certification (must be verifiable):

    • Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) or

    • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
