Sr. Mechanical Engineer with 3D CAD(specifically Creo)

Delaware, OH, United States

Fully Onsite

Job Description

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for evaluating and ensuring the mechanical compatibility of integrated IT infrastructure systems, including racks, power distribution units, and thermal management components. Reporting to the Director of Engineering Management and collaborating closely with the Principal Electrical Engineer and Senior Thermal Engineer, this role will focus on 3D evaluation, system integration, and compliance with established standards. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Creo and a strong background in mechanical design for complex assemblies.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and document requirements for mechanical architecture of rack- and row-based products, aisle containment, wall-mount products, and communication interfaces, with a primary focus on evaluating mechanical compatibility and integration of system components using 3D CAD tools (Creo)
  • Develop and review 3D models and assemblies to identify and resolve potential mechanical conflicts
  • Establish, communicate, and support updates and changes to the "standards playbook" for all relevant stakeholders, ensuring clarity, alignment, and timely awareness across engineering, product management, and business unit teams
  • Help clarify and adapt existing Vertiv guidelines for system-relevant application and easy implementation in new product developments, and provide feedback from practical design and integration work to drive continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with the team to ensure new product designs align with system-level standards and architectural guidelines
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation related to mechanical integration, compatibility studies, and design reviews
  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews and work with engineering and product management teams across business units to ensure new product development aligns with requirements, while providing recommendations for improving system interoperability, serviceability, and manufacturability
  • Manage multiple ongoing projects and switch tasks when situations arise
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in mechanical design and system integration
  • Active participation in the development of innovative solutions for data centers, including the use of new materials, advanced technologies, and automation

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, product development, or engineering standards, preferably within IT infrastructure or related industries
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, specifically with Creo; experience with Revit and AutoCAD is a plus
  • Strong understanding of industry mechanical safety standards and regulatory requirements, including ASME, ASHRAE, ANSI, OSHA, ISO, ISTA
  • Experience with system-level integration and mechanical compatibility analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts clearly
  • Familiarity with rack, power, and cooling systems is a plus
