Job Title: SQL Database Administrator (Hybrid)

Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to support a critical upgrade project from SQL Server 2017 to 2022 in a virtualized, on-premises environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical knowledge of high availability (HA), clustering, disaster recovery (DR), and virtual infrastructure, with strong scripting and performance optimization skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the upgrade process from SQL Server 2017 to 2022 within a virtualized infrastructure.
- Manage and maintain Always On Availability Groups and Windows Server Failover Clustering (WSFC).
- Work closely with infrastructure teams to configure storage, VMs, and networking.
- Support both production and DR environments, ensuring business continuity.
- Perform performance tuning, capacity planning, and backup/restore
- Create and maintain technical documentation and SOPs.
- Provide on-call support and guidance to junior DBAs or contractors as needed.
- Conduct knowledge transfer sessions to internal staff.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience in enterprise environments.
- Proven success upgrading SQL Server 2017 to 2022 in virtualized environments.
- Deep expertise in clustering, high availability, and disaster recovery (DR).
- Strong understanding of VMware or Hyper-V virtual environments.
- Proficient in T-SQL and PowerShell scripting.
- Experience with Windows Server (2022 preferred) in on-prem data centers.
- Proficiency in managing SQL Server components including SSRS, SSIS, and Analysis Services.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Certified DBA (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate).
- Familiarity with VM backup and snapshot strategies.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Redgate , SolarWinds , or Sentry One .
- Understanding of hybrid disaster recovery strategies and off-site replication.
- Knowledge of SQL Server licensing models and compliance.
- Familiarity with Active Directory configurations, including:
- Cluster Name Objects (CNO) for HA SQL setups.
- Delegated rights for service accounts to create objects dynamically within specific OUs.
- Understanding of DNS configuration for SQL Listeners and high availability scenarios.
