We are seeking a Business Analyst to bridge the gap between business stakeholders and the technical delivery team within a modern Azure + Databricks data platform. This role is focused on gathering and documenting business rules, defining transformation and cleansing logic, supporting governance activities, and ensuring deliverables align with business requirements.
The ideal candidate excels in interpersonal communication, collaboration, and organization, with a proven ability to translate between technical and business language. They will partner closely with engineers, data analysts, quality analysts, and governance teams to ensure rules, mappings, and metadata are accurate, consistent, and traceable.
Key Responsibilities
Requirements Gathering & Rule Definition
Conduct interviews and workshops with subject matter experts to elicit business rules, transformation requirements, and data quality expectations.
Document functional and non-functional requirements for each workstream or phase.
Translate legacy rules and procedures into clear, modernized cleansing and transformation logic.
Documentation & Mapping
Create and maintain Source-to-Target Mapping (STTM) documents for all relevant datasets.
Document business rules, glossary terms, and classification schemes in collaboration with governance teams.
Ensure all documentation is version-controlled, accessible, and aligned with governance standards.
Data Profiling & Evaluation Support
Review profiling outputs in Excel, Power BI, or Microsoft Purview to identify business rule implications, anomalies, and areas needing clarification.
Collaborate with Data Analysts to interpret profiling results within the context of business definitions, transformation requirements, and data quality objectives.
Document observed patterns, exceptions, and domain-specific anomalies to inform and refine cleansing, standardization, and enrichment rules.
Governance & Metadata Support
Support the curation and validation of business glossary entries, metadata definitions, and data classifications in Microsoft Purview.
Collaborate with data stewards to ensure ownership and stewardship responsibilities are documented and agreed upon.
Assist in tagging sensitive data and ensuring compliance with governance requirements.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with Data Engineers, Data Analysts, and Quality Analysts to ensure business logic is implemented and validated correctly.
Facilitate sign-off processes by ensuring stakeholders have clear visibility into deliverables and acceptance criteria.
Communicate technical concepts in business terms and business requirements in technical terms to ensure alignment across all project participants.
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst in data-centric projects.
Exceptional interpersonal skills to facilitate discussions and build consensus among diverse stakeholder groups.
Strong organizational skills to manage requirements, documentation, sign-offs, and governance deliverables across multiple workstreams.
Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical team members.
Proven documentation skills, including creating clear and accurate Source-to-Target Mappings, rule definitions, and business glossaries.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate between business and technical perspectives.
Familiarity with:
Microsoft Purview, Unity Catalog, or similar data catalog tools
Excel, SharePoint, and Power BI for reviewing data and tracking deliverables
Data quality dimensions and governance best practices
