F5 Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client i Lehi, UT in need of a highly skilled and proactive infrastructure engineer with deep experience in firewall systems and data center migrations. This is a contract role, with preference toward someone living. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in high-impact projects, can work independently, and is comfortable navigating legacy environments and technical debt. The position will initially support a major lift-and-shift migration and evolve into long-term infrastructure optimization and support.

Firewall Migration & Optimization
* Lead the migration of firewall configurations between data center environments
* Perform cleanup of legacy configurations including VIPs, app pools, unused paths, and outdated nodes
* Execute software upgrades and ongoing system maintenance to ensure operational health
* Apply best practices for configuration hygiene and system performance

Infrastructure Support & Expansion:
* Support upcoming projects including firewall rule redesign between partner environments and OS migrations (e.g., CentOS to Red Hat across 400+ servers)
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure secure and efficient transitions
* Provide input on infrastructure design and long-term scalability

Team Collaboration & Communication:
* Work closely with internal engineering teams and external partners to coordinate timelines and deliverables
* Participate in planning and execution of infrastructure cleanup initiatives
* Document processes and contribute to knowledge sharing across the team

REQUIREMENTS:
* Strong hands-on experience with enterprise-grade firewall systems (e.g., F5)
* Deep understanding of load balancing, VIPs, iRules, app pools, and high-availability configurations
* Proven ability to clean up and refactor legacy configurations with minimal supervision
* Experience with large-scale infrastructure environments and data center migrations
* Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills
* Ability to work independently in a remote-first, project-driven environment
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with Linux system administration (especially Red Hat-based distributions)
* Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools
* Understanding of SRE principles and operational tooling
* Experience working with cross-organizational firewall rule sets and security policies

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
