The Operational Support Team at STR is seeking an Associate Database Engineer to join our group. In this role, you will help to maintain, monitor, and support database systems that support critical business operations across CoStar and STR. This position is ideal for someone looking to grow their technical skills across the data platform while contributing to the reliability and performance of the platform as a whole.
This candidate will be a self-starter, willing to work closely with senior engineers and business stakeholders to troubleshoot issues, optimize performance, and ensure data accuracy. This role offers opportunities for mentorship, hands-on learning with modern database technologies, and direct involvement in supporting systems that impact thousands of users.
This position is located in Nashville, TN and offers a schedule of Monday through Thursday in office and the option to work from home Friday.

Responsibilities
- Code, optimize, and debug database queries and store procedures in MS SQL Server and Postgres
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of both the STR and CoStar data models and how they interact
- Assist with data migration, quality, and integration projects between STR and CoStar
- Partner with project teams to develop .NET business applications that interact with the databases
- Move database structures through multiple environments (DEV, QA, PROD) as the database progresses in the development lifecycle
- Create SSIS ETL packages for data transformation and migration
- Use a GIT workflow and pull requests to submit code changes for review
- Participate in on-call support as needed to assist in troubleshooting database issues individually or through a team effort
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required from an accredited, not for profit university or college
- 1+ year of experience in T-SQL programming and querying data
- Ability to QA and troubleshoot data issues
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong written/verbal communication skills
- A track record of commitment to prior employers

- Desire to continually learn and explore new database technologies
- Ability to write understandable, maintainable, and well-documented code
- Works well in cross-functional teams
- Ability to complete milestones and work toward multiple deadlines simultaneously
- Ability to translate business requirements into data model changes
- Ability to understand problems from a broad perspective and gauge the potential impact of multiple solutions
- Confidence in decision making and the ability to explain processes or choices
- Experience in fast paced Agile Scrum environments
- AWS experience is a plus
