On any given day at Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology, we're reimagining ways to create magical viewing experiences for the world's most beloved stories while also transforming our media business for the future. Whether that's evolving our streaming and digital products in new and immersive ways, powering worldwide advertising and distribution to enhance flexibility and efficiency, or delivering Disney's unmatched entertainment and sports content, every day is a moment to make a difference to partners and to hundreds of millions of people around the world.

A few reasons why we think you'd love working here:
  • Building the future of Disney's media: DE&E Technologists are designing and building the infrastructure that will power our media, advertising, and distribution businesses for years to come.
  • Reach & Scale: The products and platforms this group builds and operates delight millions of consumers every minute of every day - from Disney+ and Hulu, to ABC News and Entertainment, to ESPN and ESPN+, and much more.
  • Innovation: We develop and implement groundbreaking products and techniques that shape industry norms and enhance how audiences experience sports, entertainment & news.

The Commerce, Growth & Identity (CGI) team is dedicated to three business-critical areas at Disney that will help transform its media business. They create seamless user experiences for consumers who can choose from a wide range of subscription plans, enabling more choice and flexibility. The CGI team is also focused on building innovative and cutting-edge capabilities that will drive subscriptions, engagement, and monetization across Disney's streaming and digital products.

Our Core Billing team is responsible for building and maintaining the Order and associated payment systems which must be capable of handling high-traffic events like Pay Per Views, in addition to processing the recurring billing cycles for millions of subscribers daily - all while managing the security and reliability of our critical systems. As we build out the new Disney Streaming architecture, the contributions of the Billing team will directly enable our Disney Streaming to continue to enhance user experience while growing our subscriber base into new markets. You will collaborate closely with your peers on a distributed team to deliver a world-class solution that processes millions of transactions every day! If you are someone who has a passion for building, reinventing and innovating, then this is the role for you.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and deliver highly performant, scalable, resilient systems using functional programming approaches while contributing to the continuous improvement of systems and architecture.

  • Contribute to on-call rotation and support the SRE and Operations teams for the team's services.

Basic Qualification:
  • Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in backend services development
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
  • At least 2+ years of experience programming with Scala, functional preferred.
  • Experience with Relational and NoSQL data storage engines.
  • Experience in continuous delivering to production data systems.
  • Quality-first mindset with focus on test automation, documentation, and observability.
  • Strong customer focus with a desire for establishing and improving product quality.
  • The ability to jump into a project and contribute immediately to both implementation and architecture.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
