Chelan County PUD is hiring a Control Systems Engineer at Level I, II, III, or IV, depending on qualifications, to support and advance the SCADA, EMS, and industrial control systems that power our communities.

Engineer Levels

  • Engineer I: A strong entry point for entry level candidates or early-career professionals eager to build foundational skills in SCADA, control systems, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance through hands-on learning and mentorship.
  • Engineer II: Ideal for engineers with growing experience who can independently design, implement, and support control systems, contribute to cybersecurity and compliance efforts, and mentor junior team members.
  • Engineer III: A senior role for experienced engineers who lead moderately complex projects, serve as subject matter experts, and provide technical leadership across control systems, cybersecurity, and compliance domains.
  • Engineer IV: A principal-level individual contributor for engineers who architect and lead the most complex, high-risk control system initiatives, shape technical strategy, and provide enterprise-level expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, maintain, and support SCADA, EMS, and industrial control systems across District operations
  • Configure and integrate PLCs, RTUs, IEDs, HMIs, servers, networks, and supporting infrastructure
  • Implement and maintain cybersecurity controls and architectures in compliance with NERC CIP and other regulatory requirements
  • Provide technical troubleshooting, engineering analysis, and operational support for mission-critical systems
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, procedures, test plans, and training materials
  • Participate in or lead projects, audits, and cross-functional initiatives, mentor engineers as appropriate

Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of SCADA, PLCs, RTUs, IEDs, control systems theory, and automation principles
  • Industrial control system networking, protocols, and operating systems expertise
  • Cybersecurity principles and regulatory compliance for operational technology (OT) environments
  • Programming and scripting skills in object-oriented and/or scripting languages
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and system troubleshooting abilities
  • Effective written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders

SALARY RANGE

The starting salary range for Control Systems Engineer I is $71,920 - $89,900 (based on qualifications). With tenure and strong performance in this role an employee may earn up to a maximum of $107,880, annualized.

The starting salary range for Control Systems Engineer II is $87,840 - $109,800 (based on qualifications). With tenure and strong performance in this role an employee may earn up to a maximum of $131,760, annualized.

The starting salary range for Control Systems Engineer III is $105,040 - $131,300 (based on qualifications). With tenure and strong performance in this role an employee may earn up to a maximum of $157,560, annualized.

The starting salary range for Control Systems Engineer IV is $120,640 - $150,880 (based on qualifications). With tenure and strong performance in this role an employee may earn up to a maximum of $180,960, annualized.

Introductory Period: New employees holding regular positions must complete an introductory period of twelve months.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

A valid driver's license is required for this position (verified upon hire). A valid Washington State driver's license is required within 30 days of employment.
