Job Details

Job Title: Cryptography Consultant / SME
Location: Onsite (Chicago, IL; Charlotte, NC; or Addison, TX) 5 days/week
Duration: 18-24 Month Contract


Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Cryptography Consultant/Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support and guide enterprise security initiatives focused on cryptographic systems, key management, and data protection. This is a hands-on consulting role requiring deep technical expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across business and application teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as SME for cryptographic practices across the enterprise.
  • Lead design, implementation, and management of cryptographic key systems (data at rest and in motion).
  • Advise application managers on secure key integration into front-end web applications.
  • Collaborate with business and LOB stakeholders to ensure secure key lifecycle management.
  • Evaluate and enhance system security controls aligned with NIST, ISO, and PCI-DSS standards.
  • Drive complex security projects and provide cryptographic oversight across cross-functional teams.
  • Support audits, risk assessments, and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.

Must-Have Skills:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in Cryptography and Key Management.
  • Strong understanding of Data at Rest and Data in Motion encryption.
  • Experience with TLS, HSMs, and secure key storage solutions.
  • Solid grasp of cryptographic protocols, key exchange mechanisms, and message authentication.
  • Familiarity with Post-Quantum Cryptography is a plus.
  • Strong experience working with Front-End Web Applications and application teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills experience as a Technical BISO or similar role is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in scripting (PowerShell, Python, JavaScript, etc.).
  • Knowledge of cloud key management and provider-specific encryption models.
  • Agile team experience and understanding of secure SDLC practices.
  • Proven track record supporting audits, compliance deliverables, and vendor assessments.
